there's a reset hole or pin right next to the power or usb hole.
take a needle or small pin to insert in the tiny hole,
or,
hold the power/hold knob in the 'power up/power down' position for 15 seconds. This should reset the device!

I have the same problem. Holding the off button and/or pressing reset does nothing.

maybe the player froze, and consumed all the battery life?
Try plugging it into the power, to load battery. If the battery is completely drained, it could be that you need to recharge for several hours to maybe even a day, since Li-Ion battery's never must be fully decharged.

Try keeping it plugged into the adaptor, or into your computer, and wait for a day.
I hope this helps!

I am in the same situation, tried updating the firmware and it wont turn back on. Battery was fully charged before I tried it. Never the less, I plugged it into the wall overnight and still nothing.

I think it's an issue of either warranty or customer service.
You can best find them on their website, or in the shop where you bought the item!

I got the D2 last night in the mail and tried to upgrade the firmware. I honestly have no idea what I did wrong. I copied the Zero file D2N.bin to the root directory, unplugged and started it up. The D2 stated it was doing a firmware upgrade via the progress bar and it just went blank. I've tried everything. Reset button, hold the on switch for a long time. Made sure I powered the device completely and nothing good has come of it. No matter what windows states the it's 'unrecognized hardware' and I can't go any further.

So I talked to online chat and they suggested I do an RMA with the device. Which sucks cause I have yet to get the notice that I can send the device back.

Does anyone know how long something like this generally takes? I'm tempted to just send it back to newegg. I'd really like someone to just send me the 'recovery mystery drivers' so I don't have to wait 2 weeks to get this fixed.

What a pain but thanks for the forum.

do you have the 8gb, and if so what firmware were you upgrading to?

If you are asking me I have a 4GB white D2.

Had 2.41 and was changing to 2.45b I believe.

fbdelivers:

Uuh... doesnīt cowon warn you that its possible it goes blank during an upgrade? Mine did that too...

I just reconnected it too my pc again and installed 1, and 2.

This may not work anymore though since you hit the reset...

What was weird was it went blank... Then went to the main screen (as if it had started correctly) - I think what happened then was I panicked and hit the power switch instead of just waiting longer or hooking it up to the PC.

So when a person does the firmware load the right way. You'll get the firmware upgrade progress bar and then it goes blank or does it go into the main menu before it shuts off?

I also bricked my D2 4gig upgrading to 2.51
The first folder went well, and restarted ok, but the second folder (#1) failed to work.
Bricked solid..... no reset, no power...... nothing.....
I bought it back to the store, and they exchanged it, tried with this one..... perfect!
I really think cowon needs to supply a firmware recovery tool online...

It went blank for me... and then shut off. But only with the 0 upgrade.

Man, use the cowon tutorial, it is very easy... I think you did something wrong.

Steps:

1- TURN OFF
2- PLUG TO USB AND COPY THE 1ST FILE TO D2 - UNPLUG FROM USB - TURN ON (IT WILL TURN OFF AFTER IT FINISHES)
3- REPEAT THE PREVIOUS STEP WITH OTHER 2 FILES

I did exactly this and it works.

Somebody on this forum haves the Revovery Files... I've seen them helping others in other threads. I just hope they'll see this thread too and help you...

It is supposed to go blank. Then you plug it in and add the files in order.

What is this thread about?

Bricked players or what the screen looks like after dropping the contents of a folder in the root of the D2, disconnecting it and turning it on, whether or not it shuts off or what?

I am not Flaming anyone...Just trying to figure out what this thread is all about. The OP has not posted anything since their first post.

If you need help you should mention the stuff listed below in your post:

1. Model of your D2, 2, 4, or 8GB
2. Firmware you were using
3. Firmware you were trying to upgrade to
4. Where the problem occurred (like after copying the contents of folder 0 to the root and turning it on...)
5. Operating system on the computer
6. What you tried to do after the problem occurred (pressed the reset to make sure the player was really off)
7. Did you have a SDHC installed while trying to upgrade the firmware
8. Most importantly...What does the player do now??? Is it recognized by your OS, does the new hardware wizard appear, is it stuck on the screen with the circle and moving dots, etc...

There are two types of Bricking...One is the D2 is not detected by the computer and the other is it is detected by the computer, but is stuck on the screen with the circle...It is really important to know which it is.

All of this will help the folks here on this forum to help you, if they can.

If you really think your D2 is bricked and need help...Start a new thread...[biggrin]

Cowon asked us specifically not to allow access to the recovery drivers. Including links to them or discussing how they may be obtained is considered a violation of policy.

I'm sorry to have to take a hard line here, but that's how it is, and this is specifically mentioned in the website forum as a matter of policy. In other words, this is a WARNING not to do this.

Thank you.

I was at first really puzzled why cowon wouldn't release the drivers to the public until I realized it's probably because Cowon does not want to openly admit on their site that the D2 can be easily bricked. If a prospective buyer is browsing the Cowon site and realizes that Cowon's much-hyped "Invincible PMP" is bricked so often that they have to release special software to unbrick it, there is a much greater risk of the buyer being turned off.

Alternatively they don't want people using the recovery drivers in an inappropriate manner then wanting warranty service for something they shouldn't have been doing in the first place.

But this is kind of off-topic...

I live in Colombia and the time it usually takes itīs about 5 weeks, but i think if it is not several damage it doesnīt take more than 2 weeks.
