I went on the cowon website and downloaded the firmware upgrade. however when I unzipped the file, it was a windows .exe file.

what am I missing? There IS a firmware upgrade for mac right??

Another problem: when I try to load my photos, it locks up! My pictures are full resolution...big photos - is that why? I don't get it...

http://www.cowonamerica.com/download/cowon_d2_jsfw.html

I clicked on download for the firmware...and downloaded the zip file...after I unzipped it, it showed an .exe file.

I tried it again, and it worked this time. Wow, that was strange - the first time was definitely at .exe file. thanks for heads up!

I've read on here that after mac users upgraded the FW, bad stuff happened...should I upgrade or not? And I can't believe it's so complex to own this little device!! I was an ipod user and thought this would be better.

the firmware that works best for Mac users is i believe 3.50 (http://download.cowon.com/data/C08/D2_3.50.zip) or 3.51b (http://download.cowon.com/data/C08/D2_3.51b.zip) "Dominic may have the answer"

2.50/3.50 is the only FW so far that's messed things up for us... I'd say go for either 2.46 or 2.50b.. or the one I'm using hassle free is the Asian 3.51b FW (I'm not Asian :P Irish all the way)

3.50 is also a no goer for mac users (it is a clone of 2.50 but modified for the Asian market by including a dictionary and removing mtp support >mac users don't use mtp<)

Thanks for helping me dominic! my exboyfriend was Irish...he collected stuff that had the clover on it. I'm the asian here. lol.

opps. I installed the 2.50 beta version. I guess I'll just do it again for 2.46.

I see only one 2.50 available for download so what do you mean by "2.50b" when there's only one anyway?

never mind...I realized there was a cowon global site. I'm slow...

2.50b is the beta version :) the b standing for beta.... you'll know you are using the beta version because the boot up screen will have 2.50b at the bottom of the screen.

So you should be all good

That's a pretty freaky coincidence (but he can't have been very Irish if he collected clovery stuff lol ... no offence meant or anything though, I just find it rather funny)

lol..I just assumed it was his Irish pride making him collect it. He even had a baseball cap with the big green clover on it. LOL... he is american irish decent maybe that's why. You're right, it's funny, I never thought about it that way. Hm..maybe I should start collecting chinese stuff. haha.

Yep he'd get a kick in the teeth if he ever came "home", nah, but he would've been mocked to hell and back... We just don't do that kind of stuff haha, I still find it funny, it's very American tourist-esque.

Anyhoo is your D2 all up and running and rockin out? don't get me wrong, talking is fun, just curious if its all sorted now

Actually, I've encountered several problems already. Am trying to get my videos to play. AHHH! headache. I have quicktime files because I create my home videos in iMovie. Jetvideo doesn't read .mov files.

I think I've just spent my whole free day trying to figure this player out and normally, I'm good with things like this. thanks for asking.

I think you can use a programme called iriverter for mac to convert your .mov files to supported avi's

VisualHub is also a very nice program to convert videos to a format the D2 can read. ffmpegX may also be able to convert them, but I find it harder to use.

thanks, I have figured it out. I used Vixy.net - that's all it took. Now I think I can save my home videos as avi in imovie. *phew*

I have ffmpegx, but I couldn't figure it out, too many settings.

Visual Hub is the program I use. It works very well for the D2 and is easy to configure. It's also good for all your encoding needs.
