As you can see, it's basically the X5 - but THIS baby would be a 100+ GB, standard 30+ hr mp3 playtime, perhaps a bit thicker than the X5L. Instead of the joystick, we get buttons for the functions, the X button is what the center button is on the X5. The scroller at the left is something like the iPoo wheel, or what I suppose the iaudio 7 does (I've never used one), or maybe a better comparison is like the scroller in those laptop mouse substitutes.. The rest of things are the same... except of course, for improved DPL, id tag browsing, picture viewing + music, no file limits, blah blah blah.
I'd buy it. [thumbsup]
WOW!! thats the ugliest thing i ever seen, looks like something from the mooninites

What???
I'd say the directional keys are too small and too close together. The isolated X button seems a bit odd, and is possibly redundant depending on what your planned function(s) for it are...you call it the center button on the X5, but I'm not sure what you mean.

I assume he means pressing the joystick straight in. But I agree with you, all that space on the case you might as well spread the controls over it, making it easier to hit what you aim for. Still won't work in a pocket as well as proper buttons or a real joystick though.

To tell the truth? I LIKE the joystick, but I would prefer it on the center, or the left. And the touch-scroll thing would help for fast scrolling - 100+ GB is a lot of folders even if you subdivide by artist letters like I do ( Folder A-D, E-H, etc).
Revising my "design", I think I'd rather two side-by side "up and down" buttons: the up and down (volume, etc) and the buttons one for left and right (ff/etc), like the remote controls for tvs. Of course they'd have to be easily differentiated by tact... probably different shapes and having ones be concave upward and the others concave downward would do the trick (like the SNES buttons - remember?) The X button is away from the other buttons so you can hit it with the "mid" part of your thumb (below the joint). Maybe my hands are way bigger than average (they are big), but I can't understand people bitching about large size for their daps... shit, the click wheel for the iPoo nano is nigh impossible to operate. Anyway...
I don't know, I'm not an ergonomics expert... still, I'd like the touch strip implemented somehow in the X7. Oh, and one more thing - sideways viewing is BAD. Definitely a minus in my book for the iaudio 7, blech.
Please don't use "gay" in that manner on these boards. Thank you.

Mentioning the SNES, how about this (poorly photoshopped by me):

Pretty sweet, eh? May be better to use a "game boy" like layout. That'd be pretty neat.
Let's get rid of that ridiculous "color sound" part and widened the screen a bit.
^I don't care for how bulky it is. I'd rather my X? be nice and rectangular.

taste is a very subjective thing but that thing looks like it has balls http://www.iaudiophile.net/forums/images/icons/no.gif
^I doubt many users would consider "Color Balls" an improvement over "Color Sound". [laugh]
Does it come in blue? [devil]

Surely you meant PURPLE??

I think the Snes controls wouldn't be suited for the X7 as shown because a dap MUST be able to be used completely with one hand (or at least I think so)...But definitely with you on the wider screen!

you know wot, im kinda digging them black designs. I wouldent say no.
FURR...Those look awesoom, i personally dont have any problems with the joystick. I also like the idee of having 3 buttons right next to the screen.
woah i'd totally buy the player in FURR's mockup. Even the colors rock ;D
*drool*
if that gets to the market, and it has a 30gb or 60gb version, ill be the first in line in spain to get one,
Heh...hook me up with an X7 while you're at it. :)

The bottom one looks awesome. The controllers would have to be moved around a little so as to make the unit smaller though.
it that a mockup or official picture ?
if thats official, they can count on my money,
No, it's not official. In fact, essentially this entire thread is pure fantasy.
