View Full Version : Spelling Errors on X5/X5L
There are quite a few spelling errors found on the player... It's discouraging.
1. Settings > Alram
2. Digital AV > D-Playlist (The top shows as D-PALYLIST)
3. When ready to disconnect the player from the computer, it says "OK to Disconnected."
They can fix this, right? I'm sure there are more... :(

Paly list LOL that's funny but also very annoying at the same time. I hope Cowon fix this for the international market.
Could someone here who has Cowon contacts let them know?

This is discouraging. They don't have a decent translating team on staff knowing they are marketing this for English speaking region. wow what are we paying lots of money for??

It's a very easy fix which I'm sure will be available in the first firmware upgrade. Stop worrying about it guys...it's only semantic. At least it's not functional bugs!
Spelling errors are a very easy fix, and knowing cowon the next firmware will be out soon.
my goodness..
it would make me want to plug in a keyboard and correct it.. somehow.. lol

This doesn't bother me at all (and I'm an American). In fact, I think it's a reassuring sign that Cowon do things their own way, on their own terms. They design and build the players themselves in Korea and don't outsouce to other companies in the region. As long as the X5 has the sound quality, build quality, and reliability, I think it's easy to forgive them for this. Besides, if it bothers people that much I'm sure they can fix it in firmware.

I am glad tu cee peeple are so foregiveing for this litlle thing. Yu cee, the prublem I have is nut so much wiht speeling, but it is with planeing fixes for buugs on a device that is not released yet. Fermwear updates are over rated. How many furmwear updates du yu find on an ipod? I saye fix the buugs FURST, B4 Yu releese the damn thing.....huh guys. Afta everywon hates mi post, you must aggree with the logic.
Obviously, the preference is for no bugs. But if they do fix them in firmware updates, which Cowon has a good history of doing unlike Iriver and others, then people will cut them some slack.
spelling errors are just funny. operational errors are not. thankfully, all you have to worry about on the X5 is a few jumbled words.

I hope you realize you don't have a point. So the X5 has a FEW mis-spelled words, nothing like your post at all. Stop wasting bandwidth and making a big deal out of this.

I see your point but spelling mistakes no matter how small and insignificant should have been ironed out in the testing stage. It doesn't make Cowon look very professional.
Spelling, grammar and punctuation are a personal gripe of mine and yes I know I make them from time to time as well. What bothers me more than anything here is lazy typists who clearly know they've spelt a word wrong but can't be bother to correct it. Why should I spend my time deciphering your crap? (not aimed at anyone in particular). It only takes a few seconds to paste into Word, Outlook etc . . .

When you learn to spell maybe I'll bother to read your post! (ironic huh! :D ). Especially as I'll go out on a limb and say English is your first language!
The less firmware updates the worse actually as it means bugs aren't being fixed. How else can bugs be fixed? (which you yourself want).

LOL oops. A typo is one thing we "all" do those but laziness is another!

the iPod doesn't have many firmware updates because apple sucks. Cowon is usually fast about their firmware updates, and fixing misspelled words is only one firmware away.
And bradavon, he spelled badly because he was trying to make a point.

From a QA perspective the fact that there is a spelling mistake is a little worrying. It may mean that it was just never tested before it was released or the thing they were testing it against (functional specification or whatever) also had the spelling mistake which is just funny.
Given that I program stuff like this for a living, a spelling mistake is the easiest of things to fix and is not going to affect the function of the device one bit. It may be annoying to some but just wait until you find a real bug in the firmware that causes the thing to lock up or reset! And trust me...there will be something...
Actually since the US release of the X5 isn't even out yet, how do we know it's even on the US release? I don't think they were to concerned about english spelling in the korean version. They take some time between releasing versions so how do we know the errors will even hit the shores?
And let me reiterate, who cares? Sure when you program you find spelling mistakes, but does your programing have language support for dozens of languages? If there's a typo in the korean language set, then I'd be worried.

Hi, 1st one has been fixed.
I can't find out the other two spell errors. Anyone has same problem like Aewon?

I think of it this way if they've missed a spelling mistake what more serious problems have they missed?
p.s - How is it fixed? In a later version of the player.

And the British, Kiwi, Irish, South African, Canadian or Australian release. To name a few!

Hah...hah...hah oh man you guys make me laugh...It was annoying to read the many misspelled words in my post was it not? But you accepted them like we all have to accept the bugs and misspelled words on your new x5. Who on this post did not know that they were obvious intentional misspellings? Anyway....I like all the points you made even the one that said "stop waisting bandwidth" ...I can't stop laughing.. One good thing about Cowen that makes them an edge above ipod and the rest is that they fix their bugs. (wish there weren't any at all but hey....) Pre orders start this weekend at Suntec so my order goes it this week.
A spelling error isn't a "bug", there is no functional drawback.

I know...just bugs me that's all. But....I'm ordering my x5 30gb this weekend. Suntec Inc starts taking orders today. The 30gb is $349.00....I'll sit in anticipation for my first firmware updates.
These spelling errors are being fixed with the new firmware release ( v 2.03)
Yup, International users won't even be seeing these spelling errors at all.

Let's just hope that their QA concentrates on functional problems rather than UI ones. I presume international versions of the player allow you to select what language you want it to dispaly in? (can anyone with an X5 verify this?) In which case I can see it being easy to miss something like a simple spelling error. No tester wants to sit through the exact same bunch of screens in a bunch of different languages, especially if they don't understand them! In that case I don't blame them.
It will be fixed in later versions of the player because as they roll out production of the units the software they install on the player at that time will be the latest version available. If the latest version has the fix... Whalla!
And since the latest version is available to all of us free of charge (cos that's the way it should be damnit!) we all win. Coz Cowon do things right.

You people do understand that Cowon is an in-house Korean effort, right? I doubt they have very many native-English speakers working for them. Cut them some slack already. They've already proven, time and again, that they can make excellent players and the X5 will probably follow in that tradition.
It's just silly. Go look at Creative's forum or iRiver's forum and maybe you'll start to appreciate all the work Cowon do. I mean think about it...other DAP circles are complaining about non-existant firmware, poor build quality, component failure, etc. and the worst complaint we have against the X5 so far is that it has a few mis-spelled words in the menus. Count your blessings! ;)

Cut the them slack? Hmmmmm if they were managed by my brother-law or a friend I would. But ...guys, this is only business, the same business you would expect when you buy your Mercedes Benz E class and it comes with a knob missing from the stereo or a broken antenna. Would you or anyone expect not to get the best quality for you money? But in retrospect this is not a bank breaking purchase so.... a few spelling errors...no big deal. (Grumble....) :-) Anyway.....everyone is right though, Cowon by far makes in my estimation one of the best, if not the best players on the market. I suspect the model I get (I pre-ordered yesterday) will be to my satisfaction (even with spelling errors).

That's a really bad example. Mercedes has been struggling with poor quality in recent years, and radio malfunctions on their new cars is pretty common.
Again, I think people should cut Cowon some slack because they are a relatively young and small company that is just beginning to become established internationally.

Typo .....thanks.
Cowon is a young company and very promising. I know it started as an home grown (Korean) start up company, but look at what they have pumped out. Not even Apple in all it's glory come close to the players Cowon creates. Their flash players make the SHUFFLE look like a Sony walkman.

All versions of the player has multiple language support, but the player has only been released in korea, so why would they be concerned about non korean customers when only a small fraction of their customers buying the korean version read english?
Why should we hold them accountable for english spelling errors in the Korean version? It's really stupid to complain about this, It probably wont be in the international version, and who cares if it does? It's not like the case is loose, it can easily be fixed, and probably will before anyone without korean contacts even see it. I really don't see what the big deal is? Besides, you can't compare cowon to mercedes because mercedes are EXPENSIVE, the X5 is about the same price as every other player in it's league, your not paying any extra and your getting an exceptional player better than anything else on the market, even with spelling errors (which, let me reitterate we will not be seen by the time it gets here) the player is still MUCH better than anything else on the market, theres no copy right protection crap, it's well built, packed with tons of features and it costs the SAME, what is there to complain about?
zaphanathpaneah
05-03-2005, 18:05
I don't think anyone is complaining, I think everyone is just supprised that Cowon, who puts out such high quality players would let it slip. It's no big deal. Perhaps you are right, it will be fixed with the international version, which (unless some one reading this is in Korea right now) is all we are concerned with. English is a very hard language to master, even for those who knows no other language, so we understand. To be honest, I don't think anyone on this forum would change their decision to buy the x5 even with spelling errors or not.
It's just that were on the second page of this and I'm starting to lose my patience.
