View Full Version : Big freezing problem

Hi everyone, seems I've got a really big problem with my iAudio 7.

It worked OK, w/firmware 1.13, until :

I erased all the movies via the player interface (not via computer)
Then, I changed the display in the General options from "file" to "mp3".

I restarted the player, as required, and then....

When I started the player, it displayed "no music" (but there actually IS music in it) and is still stuck there.
The play, rec, hold and volume buttons and the ff/rewind bar do respond ; however, as soon as I press the menu button, the player freezes, and I'm forced to restart it, only to return to the same "no music" screen.

I also noticed an icon left of the battery status bar, which seems to represent a document with a pen over it.

I've tried reseting with no success.

The player is still recognizable by my computer (10.3.9 iBook G4), and there is still music in it, in the "Music" folder. The videos which I deleted aren't there anymore.

Here are the folders I see at the root :

licence.drm
movie
music
picture
podcastready
record
system (in it : default.wif ; logo.ilb ; param.cfg ; user.wif ; xdrminfo.sys)
text
voice

Can somebody help me?

Hmm, maybe it helps re-flashing the firmware? Just put the firmware file in its root directory, turn the iAudio off and on, and then the flashing process should be started. Maybe it also helps flashing back to an older version.

I've tried reflashing with 1.13 with no success. I'll try with older firmwares though.

Edit: err....Anybody knows where I could find the older firmwares?

Yup, I re-upgraded to 1.13 and it works fine. Weird though.

I have a new i7 so will make an archive of it's content before messing about.

However the last couple of posts seem to contradict each other (or there are multiple problems). In phoenixx's case reflashing with 1.13 did not work, in venerea's reflashing with 1.13 did work.

Perhaps the i7 f/w does not like some of these folders (movie, music, picture, podcastready, record, text, voice) being empty, maybe even a zero length file with the correct extension or just any file would do, or perhaps there needs to be one file in the folder.

I have noticed it crashing with certain videos when I try to resume with bookmarks - they go all stuttery then stop. If I start them again, then they are fine. Guess there are still a few bugs to kill..

It does seem liable to get in a knot, which is difficult to recover sometimes, since the first press on 'menu' takes you 'back' from the current playing item, and if that is junk (for whatever reason) 'back' is worse junk, which means you can't get to the menu where you can do useful things (like put it back in file mode, turn off resume, etc.)

I don't think it minds having empty folders .. but it may mind if it thinks it is in the middle of playing something in one of them. Personally I'd stick to doing the deleting with the computer. After a USB connection session (at least in UMS mode) the player is going to go scan everything again, and hopefully sort out problems like what it is playing isn't there any more.

'tag' browsing mode seems to have some problems for sure.

Perhaps changing firmware revisions causes some of the settings like current item/current folder to get wiped whereas reinstalling the same revision doesn't? Or perhaps installing the same f/w revision is a no-op
