View Full Version : Recharging on Linux/Macs
Only tried with a seemingly fully charged new model so may not be typical.
On windows you are told to use the 'safely remove hardware' icon in order to get the i7 to display its charge status. On Fedora 7 unmount did not have this effect and eject device had no apparent effect, not tried yet on my powerbook.
Has anyone managed to get the charging status to display other than on Windows? If so how? Anyone know what exactly what safely remove hardware does?
Has anyone had the i7 long enough to know how long it takes to charge on either normal or laptop settings?
The i7 charges whenever it is connected to the computer if you have not disabled this option in the FW. Just ignore the disconnect icons on the i7's screen.

The main of safely remove hardware is to display the 'charging' status, I would like to be able to display this from Linux or Mac
Well I posted about this earlier and in several versions of Linux the charging screen does not disappear when the device is ejected..
However, if you plug it into USB, shutdown your pc (but leave the power switch 'on' at the back) then it will charge up and also show the charging icon.
Otherwise, if you are charging in Linux just leave it in overnight or something, or for a few hours and it should be fully charged. Pain in the ass though, they should fix it in the firmware. I have tried emailing cowon but the more people who do, the more likely they are to do something about it.

Thanks, hadn't noticed your post, apologies. On my system F7 seems to do a complete power off when you shutdown, no idea whether the USB ports stay powered. Will try it out and will email cowon.
What sort of computer are you charging it on - if it's a desktop then the USB should stay powered when the power supply is on even if your operating system has shut down. On laptops i'm not sure if this is the case however.

So in a Mac, there isn't any way to check the battery status? You just plug it in 3 hours or so, and unplug it afterwards?
Also, on a Mac (iBook G4 under 10.3.9), the iAudio displays the "USB connected" icon, not the "charging" icon, is it normal, and is it charging, then?
thanks!
With my U3 I solved that problem by pressing, when it is unmounted, the play button.
Then the screen changes from the connection screen to the charging screen.
bpahlke, thanks for the tip. I'll try this later on and see if it works.
