Hi, I have two questions:

1 - If I want to use the X5 in my car via a cassette adapter or through an auxiliary jack in my car stereo, do I need to connect the sub-pack to the X5 first?

2 - Excuse my ignorance, but what really is the big deal with USB OTG? I don't understand the need to be able to transfer pictures from a digitial camera to the X5 "on the go"... why wouldn't you just do it through a PC?? Please enlighten me.

Thanks in advance for any replies..

1. You could yust use the headphone jack to connect the X5 to your stereo... so no

2. Because if you are somewhere for a few day and you don't want to take your PC with you (for example I don't even own a notebook, couldn't find a reason why to buy one exept of playing around with it) and you don't have lots of memory for your camera, you can put the photos on the X5 and delete them on the memory card to put more photos with the camero on it...

Also it's convenient if you want to get something off of a friends usb complient device, since you wont be able to take your friends stuff you can get the info right there.

Oh I see. Cool.. Does that mean there's a cord/adapter you need to have with you all the time to be able to transfer from other devices?

Is that for sure about using the headphone jack to connect to a car stereo? Has anyone done this before with another DAP? .. just wanna make sure cause it may be a deciding factor. Cause it would be a pain in the ass to have to bring the sub-pack in my car all the time.

Thanks again.

i was wondering, like 8ounce, about otg. Will the x5 let you read from an external usb hd, such as:

if you use the cassette thing then they work just like headphones. You don't need your subpack.

Does the same go for connecting it to the auxiliary out jack on a car deck?

nop247, that thing is powered by the USB port, so probably not. It would certainly drain the X5's batteries fast if it did work. Ideally, you would want something that had its own battery or an external power adaptor.

Yes 8ounce. The headphone out jack is the same as all portable CD players, tape players etc . . .

You will need to carry the supplied USB cable to use USB OTG.

I thought it connected with magic... Way to ruin a man's dreams.

Try travelling for at least 4 months around Europe when you only have a 256MB CF card and a 4MP camera! USB-OTG is a god-send for me so long as it frikkin well works with my camera!

I see now, thanks y'all. USB OTG probably wouldn't be useful for me, but I can understand it being good for travellers.

And Fido, I was also under the impression that magic was involved. That's what I'm gonna use anyway.

I think it would be pretty fresh if Bluetooth was more widely incorporated into devices (digi-cams, daps, laptops, etc..)

Thanks again.

So do I that would be sweet. It's an under-used technology right now.

It's a crappy technology. It's not used because it's nearly impossible to make anything useful fit one of the existing schemes/support all of the damn schemes. It's also much higher power than they claim. By the time they get Bluetooth working, there will be something much better.

You're pretty much correct tsyain. Bluetooth is very much overrated. I bought my phone thinking that I might use bluetooth on it (Nokia 6230) only to learn that there are so many damn bugs with it working Nokia PC Suite which causes resets on my phone. I've come across 2 laptops that don't even detect it when I have bluetooth switched on. And batter life is about 1/3-1/2 with blue tooth switched on compared with when it is off.... There needs to be some serious revision of the protocol to make it suitable for portable devices.
