I was just reading through the ipodlounge forum and it struck me that there is a really nasty bias against any DAP that is not an Apple brand. It appears that the forum members will not even discuss the merits of other DAP's and will harass posters that do. They seem to be a very hostile group at times.

It also strikes me that most of the ipodlounge members have no clue about other DAP's or even an inkling about hardware/software specs. They can discuss accessories with expertise.
Their ipod bias appears to more EMOTIONAL than rational.

I know that in this forum there are many anti ipod members(including myself) but when discussions come up about the ipod or any other iaudio competitor, members will at least discuss the merits and faults of the players and they will not flame those who are not iaudio zealots.

Basically I am glad that this forum is very tolerant of non-iaudio products. It seems members here are more DAP lovers than iaudio lovers.

Yes, we all have very good reasons to go for iAudio.

We're not as dumb and ignorant as those iPod-fanboys.

Beside the player itself, what contributed to make me go for the X5 more that for other player is the actual support/good vibes/tolerance that is on this website-forum (was looking at Ipod as anyone who doesn't have a clue on MP3 plyers..). Didn't feel that with Ipodsloungers.

I think iAudio owners are just more honest, because iAudio products speak for themselves. There is very little to dislike about the iAudios vs the competittion so it doesn't hurt to tell the truth. Also iAudio owners are not really interested in taking over the world DAP market. They're like Ferrari's.

Yes, it's basically almost every other DAP user other than iPod users that are open-minded. I've been to a few DAP forums people where people were quite tolerent, ipodlounge not being one of them. Sad really, guess they want iPod to be the only trend around?

Personally, I'm an iAudio and iRiver person.

Tolerant? Maybe. That is likely a symptom more than anything else (people who are not looking for what everyone else has are going to be more open to other ideas in general).

More informed? If you're in most of the Ipod-saturated world, yes.

Well when i read the ipodlounge forum there is really quite a bit of hostility to those who mention the advantages of other players to the ipode. yet in this forum there is none of that hostility. Take for instance the recent thread where one member posted about the new Samsung as a challenger to the X5. People did not get hostile they simply discussed the merits and their opinions of the player. There was not one poster that told the guy to "go look for the Samsung forum". No one called the guy a trol or anything negative.

The Apple marketing machine is like a dredge that just scrapes for everything, and inevitably picks up a lot of crap along the way. People see a "cool" commerical for an iPod and go and buy it. Uneducated, mindless, impressionable people. The didn't do a bit of research, so they buy they iPod thinking it's the best and defend it as such.

I would not have known about iAudio if I didn't do some research. And through only a little bit of reseach, Cowon and iAudio struck me in a very positive manner. As of now, someone would have an exceptionally hard time of convincing me to buy an iPod over a Cowon product.

And based on my experience here and elsewhere, I can say "Yes, iAudio owners are more tolerant and better informed" and feel good about it.

I think (generally), owners of DAPs other than iPods are more accepting of other companies creations. By their nature, most likely, they bought the product they did as a result of research and/or the desire not to be a sheep.
On the river and here, people are tolerant when other DAPs are mentioned or inquired about. No one killed the YH-J70 here, though if you mentioned it in the ipoolounge, I'm sure they would have your throat. Rio fans will, most likely, kick you about the lack of gaapless but they are also accepting of other players, for the most part.

Sorry for the ramble

If someone did not do research and knew something about DAP, they will not buy DAP other than ipod. That is why there are a lot of dummies in ipodlunge

I noticed the same with music inclination; check the iPod forums and see the crap they listen to, and contrast that with one of the Theory of Music gathering I've ever seen on a non-music site. I think all around, iAudio buyers are just smarter consumers. But I don't rub it in. It's nice having this secret all to ourselves.

I have iriver H140, iaudio U2 and ipod mini (my wife uses it). The sound of H140 and iaudio are excellent. Ipod mini sound is so so but the interface is very good for english songs. But for chinese songs, it is hard to organize.
