I'm looking for a flash based player with at least 2 GB. I'm not particularly interested in video playback or viewing images or color displays.
The most important to me is audio quality and it should play flac and ogg.
Another important feature should be long battery life.
I also want it to be UMS (so I should be able to connect it to any PC and just use the OS explorer to manage my files).
I don't have much experience with mp3 palyers so I don't know what I should look for in the players interface. On my PC I just use winamp and manually add songs or albums to my playlist, so anything equivalent to that should be fine.
After reading around for a few days I've gathered this list of possible DAPs:
iAudio U3
iAudio 7
Meizu M3
Samsung YP-Z5
I think I'll order the iAudio 7 today because it seems to fit my requirements the best. It has a better bat. life then the iAudio U3 and Meizu M3. The Samsung Z5 seems to have 35 hours which is ok as well, but it doesn't have FLAC support.
So is the iAudio 7 the right choice or do you guys think I overlooked something (other DAP brands are fine with me as well :D ).
There are 2 questions I have about the I7 though.
1. Can I add songs to a playlist without having to play them.
2. Does it read out the folder structure like I specified?
Seems like the i7 is the player for you.
If it's anything like the i5, you can just add songs to your dynamic playlist on the fly, you won't need to play the song first. Check out the .pdf manual, it pretty much lists all the features and how to use them.

Others worth looking at are the iRiver models .. maybe the T60, which has infinite battery life since it uses AA cells and you can carry spares (although you'll need a charger - it won't recharge them from USB).
I'm going to for I7, I guess. Just hope Cowon fix the files/folders limit before too long.
I'm also looking for either the Meizu M3 or the iAudio 7
Which has a better sound quality ? the M3 is cheaper than the iAudio 7. 15 hrs battery life is good enough for me. 30 hours is of course better, but not for a hefty increase in price.

I have one last question: What earphone should I buy?
I want to spend 10-30 (40 euros MAX!) euros on them;
Can I get some good earphones for that price?
Others worth looking at are the iRiver models .. maybe the T50
I was waiting for the 4Gb T50 but it never arrived at AMP3Players and the 1Gb version has actually disappeared from both that site & the iRiver site [blink]
Happy with my shiny new iAudio 7 now tho.

30? Where you get 30 from - the I7 is rated at 60. iAudio sound (and build) quality is usually excellent (but their firmware skills need some work). Their support is so-so, but then there is nobody with good support these days. Depends what you want .. I want .ogg, and 8GB, and I already have a couple of Cowons, so I'd go with the I7 (I did).

I mistyped - the T50 was never going to be in anything other than 1GB .. the T60 is the AAA one in 1,2,4 GB.

well I must say that th eplayer with infinite batt life from iRiver is T50 with AA battery(lasts 53 as they say). T60 as you say is with AAA and lasts about 20h. You also check iRiver T10 also with AA batt and 53h_ this model it is much more for sports ot so as it has a clip/
[yes] so good luck with yopur choice.
Peace!

Many i7 users are happy with Sennheizer PX100. I am one of those.

It appears you've pretty much narrowed it down. Like you I didn't care about the screen (or even a color display.) I wanted the same feature list you identifed and I needed long battery life. I ended up with the A7.
Here's a posibility to consider. The APC UPB10. (not a player)... Keep reading... I can tell you it works great for me. If you think you could live with it you can remove battery life from your shopping requirement (the UPB10 opens more player options) Its a "small" battery pack (no bigger than an iPod) I used it with my Sandisk Clip 2GB (which by itself is only rated at 15 hours) With the UPB10 I got over 60 hours of run time! You can check it out here. ( http://www.apcc.com/go/promo/powerpacks-3/index.cfm?tsk=a289w)
BTW... you might want to reconsider a 2GB player if your also thinking FLAC. I can tell I've heard it more than once .... even an 8GB player isn't considered to be big enough when all your tunes are FLAC.
Heres one you may have missed... the Samsung YP-P2JCB P2 8GB... seen here. ( http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-YP-P2JCB-Portable-Media-Player/dp/B000VQ7ZK6/ref=cm_lmf_tit_7_rsrsrs0) Unfortunately it has a touch screen [thumbdwn]
I know you said you want FLAC and OGG capability , but for those who could live without it, you should check out the new 4GB Sansa Clip ( http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Sansa-Clip-Player-Silver/dp/B00126V8WU/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1203484903&sr=8-4). Both my wife and I think my 2GB Clip has better sound quality my A7. Heres a review ( http://reviews.cnet.com/mp3-players/sandisk-sansa-clip-2gb/4505-6490_7-32588380.html?tag=prod.txt.3) CNET did on the it.
