ok, this is all about the GUI. what happened? i saw the pics. in this thread (http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=15756) and it just looks plain to me [sad]

what ever happen to the U3s GUI? why couldn't Cowon edit the thing and put it up on the iAudio 7? the U3s GUI shows almost everything. heck my F2 is almost like the GUI on the U3. what happen! why Cowon, why?! although this is not a turn off for me. just something i noticed [wink]

Looks pretty good compared to my G3, but the thing would be in my pocket anyway, so I don't really care what it looks like .. I can't see it. I think I will go buy one, just so I can moan at Cowon from a position of being a customer...

I want more files/folders
I want gapless playback
I want playlists
I want (but too late now) user replaceable battery. Even Sansa can manage that with the e series.
I want memory card slot of some kind (but Ok, we are into 'nice to have').

idk the GUI just doesn't look all great but o well. a good looking image in the background as a wallpaper always helps though :)

yeah, that file/folders/ limit is a pain for a lot of users but Cowon may fix that with a Firmware (hopefully). i don't think the gapless playback will happen. i don't know why Cowon doesn't just put it on their players. yet, it's not a big problem for me. replaceable batteries are a thing of the past.

Replaceable batteries are also a thing of the future .. as you will discover. Tossing a workable player just because the battery has conked out is environmentally (and financially) stupid.

Note I didn't say 'AA NiMH', I said replaceable. See how Sansa does it. See how iRiver X20 does it. We are talking devices getting up to PDA costs here (eg the Q5) .. nearly up to cheap notebook costs .. and we are supposed to send them all back to Korea to get battery swapped? Gimme a break. 8<,

i knew your weren't talking about AA Batteries. yes Sansa and iRiver do the replaceable thing but Cowon's DAPs last longer. yes i know throwing away a DAP that DOES work but the batt. is almost nearly dead but who cares. i get paid nearly every two weeks and i know i'll have the money to buy a new DAP when Christmas comes around.

Yeah, the gui is a little ugly IMHO. It could really do with a colour overhaul. I think the normal Cowon GUI designer hasn't been active, because this is an OLED screen afaik. And Normally Cowon guis are based on white, but this one is based on black. Must have something to do with the fact that OLEDs when they are displaying black use less power.

Ah, I see green issues, save the planet, etc. haven't impinged on your consciousness much yet then.

Better?

Yeah, small digits are blocky, why zero should be like a little square?

Big digits are ugly too, why zero with slash? Usually the slash is used to distinguish zero from letter O, which can't be an issue here.

And using three different fonts on the screen is one too much.

I guess they must have got a cheap deal on the big font, which is the only one that seems to have the '0' with a slash through. I wonder if the '7' has a bar through the middle too (to distinguish it from the l or I)??

And it looks like there isn't just one small font. Small "1" in top left corner looks different from other corners.

I don't think so. The comment seemed acceptable (even humerous) to me. Stop being so heavy-handed.

Okay, now I'm cranky....

breakfastchef- in the future if you have issues with a mod/admin decision please discuss it with them directly instead of taking a thread off-topic in order to do so.

GSV3MiaC- the point is you're flaming. The change is still a personal attack. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you didn't mean to come across that way.

FURR- sorry for the off-topic'ness and the flak.

Everyone- please keep future posts in this thread on-topic. Thank you.

My comment was intended as an attack on the attitude, not the individual. The 'it's Ok to throw it in landfill, because I can afford another one' approach to life. Eventually we may be strip mining those landfill sites for the copper, gold, and maybe even plastic (the Silicon we can probably afford to ignore).

Reuse .. repair .. recycle! Or just don't have any children. That'd work too.

Here endeth the (off topic) sermon. Thank you for your patience.

i absolutely freakin love the GUI on this player. it only looks plain cuz the stock BG is black, but since it can use custom wallpapers, that's not what matters.

now it's just down to text and icons. it's great how it displays 7 items at a time. Not too little (like the D2's measly FIVE) to require lotsa scrolling, but not too much to strain the eyes reading titles.

the icons... hm... the little mini icons in the menus looks great, but one thing totally kills it for me. The main menu icons. Anyone else feel that these icons are utterly horrible? i mean... for music, it's a headset, not headphones... [cursing] wtf? for video, it's some kinda screen that says "REC" on it... [cursing] wtf? for radio, i was expecting a radio, but NO it's a satellite dish... [cursing] wtf? for pictures, yea pretty good. a roll of film and a screen... [biggrin] perfect. for text, a laptop with not just the letter A, but the "gah" symbol in korean. i'd be fine with that if this were a korea exclusive player, but it's in america... [cursing] wtf? and finally, settings. yea pretty cool, i saw the usual "gears" which is all fine and dandy, but what is that i see? a... a... a HARDDRIVE??? i guess cowon didn't bother enough to change that coming from the i6... [cursing] wtf?

but heck... function over form right? everything about this player is top-notch making it the only rival of the X20 on my DAP list [thumbsup]

Cowon may fix all this with a Firmware update(i hope). the Radio icon doesn't bother me much but that text, and music does just a little but after all they are just icons.

Wow, that's a lot of angry smileys.
And yeah - I noticed the inconcistencies too, but personally it doesn't bother me at all.

just the kinda replies i expected.

with a deal like $150 for a player like this... there's no way i can turn it down no matter how strange the GUI is [thumbsup]
