I've been beaten to it again :-(
I guess their review is the suck in comparison to mine though.

"I guess their review is the suck in comparison to mine though."

I would assume so. CNET reviews are good, but often lacking in depth. They have so many things to review so I guess they can't spend too much time reviewing one particular thing. I love the iAudiophile and dapreview reviews.

Yes, the Cnet reviews do lack but their fun to watch. have you seen the review for that new Coby MP3 Player. lack of controls and that's pretty much it.

If you'll just HURRY UP AND POST your review, we can tell you how much better than the CNET one it is. You need to hurry up though, or the iAudio 8 will be released and nobody (except you) will be interested in the i7 anymore. 8>.

p.s. 'is the suck' fails the 'is it English' test. Just say 'theirs sucks', or 'theirs is the pits' or whatever.

Sorry, I wanted to sound like a stupid little script kiddie. Perhaps I should have written "t3h Cn3t r3vi3w t3h suXx0rZ c0mp4r3D 2 da 1337 iAudiophile style reviewing".

And yes - I am hurrying up. This will be my fastest review ever. Like it will be finished really soon and I will have reviewed a player in under a week. Normally reviews have taken me over 2 months to complete (and in some cases more than half a year).

EDIT: I hope you all noticed that my english is normally not this bad - especially in reviews I try to pay particular attention to good grammar and language. Sometime my punctiation is a little off, but I always try my best.

In these days of web pages and forums I figure you are better off getting a review out quickly, and then adding 'long term test' comments afterwards. It's not like a magazine review, where once it is printed it is set in stone.

And yeah, your English is usually better than that. You'll never make a script kiddie, not without a partial head-ectomy.

LOL, thanks for that! [rofl]

We did notice, however, that FLAC music is only supported when encoded at a compression level of six or below -- anything higher and the player freezes.

can someone tell me what's the meaning of supporting FLAC files if it can't play them? Was really in to buying it. Now im really bugged out about this. No other FLAC-supporters out there? If this is the case I probably could go back to looking at any other mp3-device... this is what this modell was all about, upgrading this sound standard? I simply just don't get it...

That would be very surprising if it were true...

Likewise, it's making me relucant to get one!

It can play FLAC. I have Mingus Ah Am in .flac format and it plays fine. I thought cnet's review of the video was very unfair. Personally, so long as you dont need to read text on your videos then its really good.

Yes it can play FLAC, but the CNet review suggests it will only play FLAC files compressed at level 6 or lower.

I've ripped quite a lot of my CDs at level 8 (having done them in recent months)

I wonder what version of flac they tried?

I spoke to the guys at AMP3 earlier about this.

They tried a FLAC level 8 file, and it worked ok.

I'll test it in a moment :p
UPDATE: Currently listening to FLAC files with level 8 compression on the i7 with no problems. The guys at Cnet UK are probably using an old fw version or something.

You know, the more I read and research, the more confused I get... I need some kind of divine advice to help me figure out which player to get between the D2, Clix2 and i7.

I keep asking myself: "How often will I watch videos?" and I can't seem to come up with an answer.

Try asking yourself how often you will watch videos and listen to music with the same device? There is a fundamental incompatibility between the size of the screen on which it is comfortable to watch video, and the size of a device which is convenient to carry around for music. All multi-function players are a compromise between the two, at least until flexible screens finally show up.

The D2, for example, is a little too small for comfortable watching (although certainly it can be done), and a little too large to slip in a pocket besides a wallet.

Is what you want a portable video player, that would of course also play music, or are you after a music player, that might perhaps be suitable for showing a funny clip to a friend down the pub or something?

Thanks, that was enlightening. Yeah, I suppose I don't really care for video, I mostly use my player in the gym or while walking somewhere by myself. This, however, only strikes out the Clix because the D2 has some unique features that are very useful.

An important one is the ability to control it while it's still in my pocket with the programmable tactile buttons. Also being able to skip to a precise time of a song is really nice. Lastly, the SD card slot. Though I'm not sure all of that is worth getting a player nearly twice the size of the i7.

Would the sound quality on the i7 and D2 be roughly the same, or are there some kind of chipset differences that make one superior?
