Purpose of white balance?

What's the use of that option? I see it in cameras, so I'm guessing it's for reading the screen outside in well lit environment. What level do you guys leave it on?

It's a backlit LCD, not a full color LCD (in which case it would have a balanced white backlight). The backlight colors you see are dependent on the lighting. Blues will show through better from sunlight, reds under flourecents.

Mine's on 008, but I still can't get enough green out to make a nice purple.
