View Full Version : Aewon has an X5L in hand!
Received directly from Korea, a 20GB X5L. Woot.
I've barely touched it, so I'll get back to you on it :)
Nice, how long is the battery life on this one?
It says 35 hours. But I havent checked out the real time.. since it hasnt been on that long haha.

So what are the dimensions??
how thick is the base, and how thick is it at the hump?? Over 20mm??
Lucky you!!!!
Could you compare it with the h320?
Thanks
(Make also a review :) )
Is the enlarged size noticeable or cumbersome in pants?

Is the manual in English online, in printed form or on the CD?
Where did you buy it? and how much for?
I'm seriously considering doing the same with the X5L 30Gb. I didn't realise the X5L was out period. Although it maybe better to order from a German e-tailor.

Fido, I'm trying to be mature and not laugh at your last comment :)
Here is a pic of the X5L on top of the M3. Its HUGE (in thickness)! Battery life makes up for it I guess though.

Bloody hell that's fat but still thinner than an iRiver H3xx right? I don't think the H3xx is that big and for 35 hours I could live with it.
Is the M3L that much bigger compared to the M3?
I am sorry to do this to Iaudio, but the fact that the X5L is a monster had to be let out sometime.
The Iriver H320 is even smaller that this beast at 22mm compared to the 23mm of the X5L and X5 60gb.
The difference between the M3 and the M3L is not that noticeable because there is no hump, but here it makes all the difference.
Ofcourse if battery life is your main concern, then this is the only way to go.
I kind of noticed the thickness too :( it is huge, but for 35 hours, isnt it worth it?
That's a 60gb, no wonder... I have a 20. So it's actually 18 mm. A bit smaller, but still thick.
hey ok so im not interested in the 60gb HD which add extra thickness.
If i could see similar pics with the 20 or 30 GB X5L, would be greatly appreciated as that is the model im most interested, not the 60GB monster :)
Ed
There is no 60GBX5L. The case for the 60GB X5 is the same as the case for the 2/\0/30GB X5L
Actually, No i doubt it. 60GB should be larger than the 30/20GB.

Thanks Aewon for the pics, now im happy that i preordered the X5 not the X5L. I think just building a battery pack should more than suffice. Plus you can choose on whether you want to use it.
@aewon..
at dapstore.com they sell those toshiba 60gb harddrives and mention that it fits into a m3 40gb (which has the same body as m3l) ..so i think the x5l and the x5 60gb should be the same. in the end its all speculations..
Actually, No i doubt it. 60GB should be larger than the 30/20GB.
Thats a 20gb/30gb X5L, like you have unless you got the non "L" version. There is no 60gb X5L, and the 60gb and "L" share the same body, as tsayin pointed out. That is what I meant when I put X5L/60gb, meaning they are both the same size.
Sorry for the confusion.
actually i would like see the thickness of a x5l 60gb :D
gotta hold this thing with two hands..

The Iriver H320 is even smaller that this beast at 22mm compared to the 23mm of the X5L and X5 60gb.
That's fine then as the H3xx is no where near as big as everyone makes out. For the added battery life the X5L is fine.
I wish they'd hurry up and release these!
The difference between the M3 and the M3L is not that noticeable because there is no hump, but here it makes all the difference.
Thanks but I meant how does the X5L compare to the M3L? I'm guessing the M3L is much smaller?
Wow, that is pretty fat, but is it possible to compare it to a Ipod Photo? I have been telling my friends how foolish they are and it would kinda suck if they could beat me on something (even if it is only one thing)

Why is the Ipod Photo large also?

Well, look on the bright side... If the X5 really is bigger, it could easily kick the iPod's ass if the two players ever got into a fight. ;)
i just noticed that a pack of cigarettes are thinner than the ones in the US.

Those pictures have discouraged me of getting an X5L 30gb. It seems like something you couldn't put inside your pocket. Too bad. :(:(:(
I Nice comparison picture between X5 20/30gb and X5L 20/30gb would be great. If i keww how much the difference was between these two it would help me decide.
That's scary, I couldn't look at those pictures for too long, its going to give me nightmares. That's secured my decision in the X5 NO L
To clear up confusion I will go over all the sizes
M3:14mm
M3L/M3 40:18mm
X5:14-18mm (Nohump-Hump)
X5L:18-22mm
iPod:14.5mm
iPod Photo 30GB:16mm
iPod Photo 60GB:19mm
The iPod photo 30GB cannot be directly compared to the X5L because it has a normal battery.
The X5 averages out to the same size as the iPod Photo 30GB, but Apple did a good job with the 60GB, it's only 3mm thicker than the 30GB, they can pack alot of stuff into a small space!
2mm is hardly noticeable but 4mm really is, that'a about a quarter inch!
So while the X5 is bigger than the photo, it's also smaller, and the juxtaposition of the thickpart and thin part makes the difference hardly noticeable.
If your friend ever tries to give you shit for having a hump thats 2mm thicker than the photo, (if he can even notice) than just show him a video, he'll be stuck watching pictures while you watch a movie.
The X5L is actually thinner than the H3xx since the H3xx is 22mm throughout the body, but remember, the H3XX does not have an extended battery! So it should be compared to the X5, which is much much thinner!
and iriver has all connections on the body.. so u are going nowhere with that comparison.
i think the only reasonable option is the normal x5. everything above 20mm is just outdated today.

So to be simple, from a size perspective only the X5L is roughly the same size as a H3xx?
Only at the hump, the rest is actually thinner. But it's still thick :(. It's just comparing it to a goliath.
:( Yall are making me rethink me buying this X5L in the first place :\
I'm on the verge of considering selling or trading for an X5 with someone lol.

This thread subject always rubs me the wrong way, even in the iriver forums... You guys are talking a few mm!!!! for gods sake, when it's in your pocket you'll never know the difference, even with tight jeans on....

35 hours is definitely worth a few mm(of course, I have an iRiver H140 with an iSkin, so I'm used to the size ;) ).
Anyone know how much more $ the L version costs?
bradavon

$40 more I presume?

Hehehe....
Anyways. Yes that is one fat momma...Sorry Aewon but you've made me feel better about the fact that I'm only able to get the X5 30GB right now and not the X5L 30GB. I wanted the L because I've got an 18hr flight in my very near in the future... I really don't want to be listening to plane engines and crying babies again just because my batteries ran out. Damn, I'm never going on a plane again without music at my disposal. I wonder how well my new Shure e2c's will work just as ear plugs... Guess I could always pick myself up one of those external battery packs.

The x5l 60gb looks bloody huge. WTF...that's bigger than the iRiver H3xx

It's only a 20GB/30GB X5L, not 60GB. But, the 60GB X5 is the same size, they have the same body.
I believe there isn't a 60GB X5L.

Indeed 2 body sizes:
Smaller: 20 & 30 GB
Larger (but still bloody small): 20/30GBL (+2/3 weeks after 1st launch) and 60gb (+2/3 weeks again)
I have to admit, in real life, if you dont have something to compare it to, then the X5L is completely fine. The weight is also a bit of a hassle too. Not much of it. But I'll be enjoying my 35 hours of playback :)
I will post some pictures later.
How bout some impressions other than the size (sorry about the hijcking your thread btw). Sound quality, navigation, video quality, features, etc?
Proportions always look bigger on paper, but I think I'll be fine with 12 hours, and If I ever need to use it for longer than that I'll probably have enough room for a battery pack.
Very nice. Navigation i was confused with at first, but other than that, it is perfect. Sound quality becomes way better with different earphones, as always, and the equalizer works very well.
And yes, "Alram" is a typo, made by Cowon lol. Sad, but pretty funny. Video quality is better than I expected. 15 fps seems enough, and you can barely tell the difference from 30 and 15. Features are great as always.
Oh and the screen is crystal clear.
One thing bothers me though... when starting up the player, or beginning or ending a video, you hear a noticeable sound from the player. Like a small buzzing sound kind of... I don't know how to describe it.
Yeah most HDD players have that sound, so I wouldn't worry about it.

the other pictures were blurry... so i'll compare the thickness antoher time; sorry :\
Its one beautiful machine from those view. Thanks Aewon!
