View Full Version : iAUDIO your Ford
iPod your BMW - no thanks. I don't have an iPod and I don't have a BMW either.
But I will happily iAUDIO my Ford. It's pretty easy for me, because in the glove compartment in our Ford Focus CMAX there is a line-in plug. What I do then is connect the subpack to my M3 - chuck it into the glove compartment - connect the line-out with the line-input (the cable that came with the M3 does the job very well) - wire out the remote and then clip it to the gear lever. Done! I just iAUDIOed my Ford. And it cost me a sensational 0.0 cents.
I gotta post pics sometime ...

I'm sure the M3 will suit my BMW very well.
The iPod would look pretty bad in my car with its kitchen tool design and colour.
thats pretty cool. I would love to have an audio controller on the wheel like that. What I do now is just keep my m3 in its case on my belt and plug in a tape adapter to my headphone out jack on the remote. Probably not the best way but it saves me from having to remove the m3 from its case :) I just need to find a good place to clip the remote onto.
sounds cool exity, especially as the newer fords got a non-iso radio-slot :-)

Yeah this is something I'm very angry about. Even the Volkswagen Phaeton (which want to be upper class) does not have an ISO radio slot, it's a shame!
To the M3 in combination with cars, I already made my special thoughts. :-) As the device is fully controlable with its remote it would be the IDEAL jukebox for any car. You could put the cabels behind the main panel and put the M3 itself in the glove compartment with its sub-pack. Would be to great if there would be a project like for the ipod, where they try to control the device through the CD changer controls. With the M3 it would even be possible to show artist, track and so on.
Just my (never ending) dream...
well, the phaeton doesn't have one, but our passat has, and it's a shame, because my dad changed the default radio to a cd-tuner (we have VERY different music tastes...)
afaik the ipodyourbmw thing is just that you make special playlists, and access them like your ipod would be a cd-changer. no titles, no filenames, it's like those flash-mp3-players years ago . way too complicated for anyone to use...

No, what I meant, was a private project, not the ipod-bmw-thingy, which is indeed ridiculous.

It's 150 USD to hook an iPod to a BMW. That, my friends, is ridiculous. I'll be e-mailing Audi now and asking them to Cowon their cars so I can splurge on an S8 when I have the money. Which is most likely never.
koolshen, i didn't know that some people would be more innovative than apple (sarcasm applied) there's also some project like this for the VW-cd-changer protocol on the archos jukeboxes. maybe one can mod it to fit the audis (cleanpauper, i hope you'd be happy with an a2 or an a3 ;-))

I doubt Americans are happy with small cars. :-D

I wish I had a dollar for every VW beatle, ford focus, and wrx I see around here!!
Nope, America loves small! ... cars that is!
Got an audi , and a passat myself. Which, buy the way, I consider in the "smallish" catagory.

LOL
Then you are either from the West or East Coast, aren't you? Or is the trend for SUVs already over? Don't know but if that's the case I'm quite astonished.
I would understand it if you would have to pay the same price for a gallon (5.40 $ is the minimum to pay here).

OOPS! Forgot to mention my wife drives a Dodge Durango lol!
You know, I am so used to SUVs I just don't notice them anymore!!
My bad!I guess the mid size cars are getting fewer and fewer!
True about the gas prices , but at least you guys have awesome roads!
Oh, you were close.... I live in the Northeast.
buying the smallest 1.8"-dap on the market and driving cars the size of two smarts..... (yes, europeans call that thing a car ;-))
and the awesome roads are that awesome full, that you can't drive that fast as you want (or you get up really early)

SMARTS are awesome! Haha id love to have one of those here in Canada!!
Ah, but you can't beat my setup - M3 extension pack duct-taped into the cup holder of my Jeep Wrangler, and the cords from the cassette adaptor and ac adaptor sometime get caught into the shifter so I can't go into first gear.

At Vlad Tepes Drac and Andy
Smarts would be great in smog covered Los Angeles, but I'm afraid they couldn't be seen by those damn fool enormous Hummer H1s and H2s. Either that or the Smart drivers would be blinded by the Xenon headlights of all the X3s, X5s, Cayennes, Touregs, Navigators, Aviators, M class, etc. out here. I know Xenon headlights are designed to point downward, but the adaptive headlight systems on most new cars can’t adapt quickly enough to abnormalities on the road and would blind the poor clean air-conscious drivers when the bumps cause the car to point a little skyward. I think Smarts are low slung as well, so drivers would be blinded nonetheless, but don’t hold my word, because I haven’t seen Smarts. I think they are around the same size as GEMs. In any case, I’m sure they would be in the United States if it weren't for the safety hazards they may present while driving around these huge cars. I believe the same would apply to Canada as well. Frankly, I'm quite happy with my Mini. It’s fast, agile and has great fuel economy. The only problem is that it has no tape deck, so I’m forced to buy a FM transmitter. And, no, I'm definitely not going to iPod it.
At Andy
The A3 Sportwagen is about to be released in the US, And I think it looks quite nice. But hey, I can dream about an S8, can't I? it's just too bad Audi has decided not to but the Lamborghini Gallardo's V10 into the S8. It's shame, really.

Alright, I did it like eXity but iAudio'd my Volkswagen. I had also the luck to have a car stereo with Aux-in (not the original one, though, it is an Aiwa MP3-CD deck). So here are my pictures:

The car has unfortunatley no glove department but here this is no problem, as you can easily put the M3 in the open department (perhaps you can see the blue light of the top of the M3 in the right edge of the picture).

Two things unearthed since this topic came out:
One, From the Apple MacWorld press confrence:
"...last year, BMW added iPod adapters (as an option) from the factory in their cars. And now...Mercedes, Volvo, Nissan, Scion, Alfa Romeo, and Ferrari have jumped on to do the same thing."
Two (and this is for Koolshen, mainly), ProClip has come out with a car dock for the M3. ProClip is good stuff, high remarks from the iPod and Dell axim (palm pilot) communities. It should be comming out soon, it's already been anounced with pirctures and stuff:
