Hi there, new user here, I was hoping someone could provide some insight on a problem I am having with my D2.

To keep things short and to the point, my D2 managed to find its way into coming in contact with some water (it wasn't submerged, but it was in a bag that wasn't waterproof that had suffered leakage due to rain) about 2 weeks ago roughly. The device, itself, seems to be working from all indications, I just cannot get it to shut off indefinitely. When I do turn it off, it kicks back on erratically. Apparently, enough times to completely drain the battery (factoring in the auto shut off) at times.

Now to the question, is there anything one can do to curb the D2's behavior besides reinstalling firmware/reset button? As I have tried both of those already. I realize I might just be out of luck here, but I thought I'd ask anyhow.

Sounds like you still have a little water trapped in the power switch contacts. I find sitting the unit under a warm desklamp (preferably with a fan to encourage airflow) for ~12 hours should dry it out.

Thanks, TedJ. Makes sense. Stupidly, I guess, I didn't factor in there may just be water trapped inside still for some reason or another.

Oops. I did exaclty the same with my phone a few months back.

This is one of the drawbacks of not being able to remove the battery. It's common knowledge to be the first thing to do immediately if a phone goes into water. I suppose the D2's battery is more "sealed in" though?

I left my dead nokia without it's battery in the airing cupboard for a couple of days and it worked fine when i tried it and has been fine ever since.

so i'd suggest giving it a few days off in the warm!

Well, the battery isn't sealed in as such... but it doesn't have the exposed terminals you'd find on a user replacable battery.

A friend of mine asked me about a similar problem when his phone got drunk (i.e. soaked in beer) at a party a few months ago. [biggrin]
