I would appreciate a recommendation on a converter from . mov to .avi to play on the A2. I really would like it to be free and not too complicated, but free being the most important. Thanks!

You could try Divx Doctor, it converts most movie files in to avi, divx encoded.

I am pretty sure that you can use MediaCoder (free) to convert mov to avi which may NOT be playable on A2 but then convert that avi to A2 using jetaudio. So it is a two step job.

First read the rm to avi conversion thread

http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=15394

which is similar to your problem and then go to MediaCoder forums and find the thread about mov conversion.

It has been quite a while i did a mov to avi conversion with MediaCoder and i don't remember the settings but as far as I remember I used settings similar to rm to avi conversion, if not the same.

Anyway, you can find find the exact settings in MediaCoder forums.

Another option is to convert from mov to mpeg1 - which is what I did.

However, off the top of my head, I can't remember which package I used!

I know you're probably not looking for a Linux solution, but I have converted several using mencoder. Worked just fine. I have several music videos that I converted using this technique. Likewise for .wmv files that were not formatted for the Cowon. Likewise for youtube files, etc. Mencoder is a swiss army knife of codec conversion.

BEWARE: free converters are usually a pain in the ass to use. My own point of view... but i feel like i am not the only one that wants to spend 5 hours figuring out the audio settings and everything… you can use mp4converter.

It's true that www.mp4converter.net is your best choice.

^Not really, since _free_ was one of the parameters. A quick perusal of that site suggested it was largely intended for shopping.

I'm curious as to why some users here only seem to post in this sub-forum, and then only to recommend certain products. It makes me wonder whether they're not so interested in discussing Cowon products as they are in trying to get people to buy (their?) software.

You know what, nevermind...certain posters are just repeating themselves anyway.
