View Full Version : Is it possible to reset the size of a flash app?
The app can be found/downloaded here: Deviant Art (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/40255643/)
Direct Download (http://www.deviantart.com/download/40255643/Line_Rider___beta_by_fsk.swf)
It is Line Rider.
It it is made for the resolution 800x600 so I am only able to see the upper left corner of the game, when I try to play it on my D2.
Is there a way of set the flash app to 320x240 to fit the D2 screen?
Any help would be appericiated!!
Why would you play it on the D2? You can't even save the tracks
Well the same reason I have the other games on my D2... To kill time...
I can't save any High Score of any game right now, but I still enjoy playing them...
And if I am able to modify this game, I maybe able to reset the resolution of any game that is not directly made for D2/U10...
If anybody has an idea it would be nice!!

For changing the resolution of the game you'd need the .fla and then change the resolution and reconvert it to a .swf .

Thank you sanguine!
I think I should ask the author...
I hope he will do it since Line Rider 2 is now published by InXile...
I will see...

But there could also be the problem that it won't work on the D2 because the D2 only supports AS2/FL 2.1.
Another option instead of asking the author for the whole .fla would be asking him if he could just resize it to 320x240 and share the .swf with us
Thank you sanguine!

hint: the .swf referenced can be decompiled and rebuilt with D2-appropriate graphics. I don't know if the author/owner would appreciate that or if there is a legal issue involved in doing so, though.

hmm yeah..
unfortunately, I have no Idea how to do that...
never dealt with any flash application before nor decompiled one...
just curious, will it decompile like an exe file in some kind of assembly code or in the original .fla file? And what would I need to decompile it?
As a test, I already decompiled it down to the resource elements, scripts, etc.
So, you can go pretty far into the guts and rebuild it from scratch.

So what you are saying is it isnt that hard to change the resolution?
Can you tell me what I need to decompile and where I find the resolution?
Do I need to download the flash developement software and does the trial one work for what I want to do?
It depends on which tools you use - there are some all-in-one tools out there for decompiling Flash files and even rebuilding some (or all) of the elements, scripts, etc. into a new version. Some tools just replace elements in existing files.
I have a tool which just decompiles (usually used for learning purposes, but it's also saved me when some flash source was lost) and the official Macromedia Flash MX product for building new .swf files.
I tried a quick rebuild for laughs and there were a few script errors. Some decompiled Flash don't come out perfectly, I'm afraid. So, this would take a little research to fix the code and rebuild, then figure out where any resolution settings are happening. I can see the graphics resources, which would be easy to resize, but I think the code is determining what size window to create. Unfortunately, I really don't have the free time right now to go further.

Ok thanks wader..
I will see what I can do...

Nice game Yeeze. I think it would be fun on the D2's touchscreen.
Let me know when we can play it http://tweakers.net/g/s/smile.gif
Hmm I don't know if it is worth decompiling the whole thing and then change it, because the frame rate would be really crappy...
I should have thought of that earlier...
