the D2 has a 3.5MB/Sec transfer limit, i suspect its becuase thats the speed of its internal flash,

but, it also applies this limit to the SD card,

now, i tested my SD card, its capable of 9MB/sec write and 19MB/sec read,
why cant Cowon improve SD card read/write speeds ?

This is because of the chip used inside the Cowon D2. I'm sure that Cowon didn't limit it on purpous.

For the speed of data streaming required to listen to digital music and to view videos at a "reasonable" bitrate and FPSs the current limitations are adequate. Remember making a pipe wider does not necessarely allow faster water flow unless the water preasure (volume) is increased. For "writing" data to the SD card the current speed limitation is a bit of a annoyance, but once the music is there any additional bandwidth is wasted. So it all depends on how frequently you're adding music to the SD card and how you're using your D2. If you're using the D2 as a "storage" drive and it is not fast enough to read/write the data... then I think you're better off with a USB 2.0 SD or SDHC adapter. You can get one of these adapters which are a lot more compact and faster than the D2 for about $10.

As you said Aevum it's beacuse the speed of the flash memory.
D2 uses a Samsung flash memory and its writting speed is 3.5 MBps for 2GB one (model K9LAG08U0M) and 3.7 MBps for 4GB one (model K9HBG08U1M).

Hey Guys;

As suggested before, go with a card reader if you want fastest Write/Read speeds. [smile]
Below is a detailed analysis that I did with two different 8GB SDHC Class 6 cards tested in the D2, then in the card reader.
I hope this helps some of you!
P.S. If you are interested in the card reader that I used, it is here for only $4.99 shipped! Great deal & works fast. [thumbsup] http://www.meritline.com/sdhc-card-reader-brown-c206a.html

Test results below here;
------------------------------------------------------------------

1) A-Data 8GB SDHC Class 6

a) Test reults with Meritline's USB 2.0 SDHC 150x Card Reader
Write from hard drive to Card Reader = 84sec = 11.9MB/s
Read from Card Reader to hard drive = 51.7sec = 19.3MB/s

b) Test reults with Cowon D2
Write from hard drive to Card Reader = 273sec = 3.7MB/s
Read from Card Reader to hard drive = 259sec = 3.9MB/s

2) Kingston 8GB SDHC Class 6

a) Test reults with Meritline's USB 2.0 SDHC 150x Card Reader
Write from hard drive to Card Reader = 112sec = 8.9MB/s
Read from Card Reader to hard drive = 52sec = 19.2MB/s

b) Test reults with Cowon D2
Write from hard drive to Card Reader = 272sec = 3.7MB/s
Read from Card Reader to hard drive = 260sec = 3.8MB/s
