View Full Version : Player freeze when browsing music files
I had transfer some music files to the player yesterday. When i browsing through the files, it was freeze suddenly and became inoperatable. The music file had a long file name like Ok01012600001_128.wma but works fine on the pc.
Luckily, it shut off after 10 minutes. I am using firmware 2.46 .

I had this problem when I 1st got my D2. I was using filenames that included album, artist, track#,genre.(yeah, I know pointless[wacko] ). This method resulted in having a few files with extremely long filenames. These long filename songs gave my D2 problems too, freezing and shutdown happened whenever I attempted to play these songs...Changed the way I named files to a more logical--track# and title. Problem solved.
However, your example "Ok01012600001_128.wma" isn't really that long, so I'd be surprised if that was really your problem, unless of course, you were saving on keystrokes and didn't use the whole filename[smile] .
Alright i have change the file name to <track> - <title> format. Thinking that the problem is solve. Unfortunately, the music files are not playable this time.
As the player are made in Korea, I thought they are capable to read Korean language. No?

I would think the Korean characters would be no problem.
I wish I had a definite answer for ya but I don't.
The D2 doesn't like something about those files[confused] and I just noticed you said, "When i browsing through the files, it was freeze suddenly and became inoperable." So you weren't even attempting to play the files which makes it all that more confusing to me as to why this may me happening.
I might try running those files through the Jetaudio software and transcoding them to a different format..just to see if that might help.
Sorry I can't be more helpful
good luck

Are these PROTECTED .wma files by any chance? (Prior to WMP10, the default for Windows Media Player ripping CDs was to rip to PROTECTED files, i.e. you locked yourself out from doing anything much with them. Great idea M$).

Do tell us if its so...
Not a solution, but after it becomes inoperable you might consider pressing the Reset switch in order to bring your D2 back to life more quickly.
Does the D2 hang when browsing the same file every time? That is, can you repeat the problem exactly?

Yes it does. I had tried to rename the files and removed the tag, but they are still not playable on D2 [no]

I tried the files from that link without converting them in any way - they showed up correctly in Artist and Album views, I was able to navigate between them and then play the songs. No problems.
I'm using v2.46 firmware with English language setting.

Really? How come they dont work on my player??
If you have a problem on your D2, it may be due to other files, perhaps. Have you deleted everything off the device except those two files, as a test?
