save presets?

Has anyone figured out the way to save presets between firmware upgrades? I tried copying back PARAM.CFG, did not work...

- 'Settings'->'JetEffect' - Setup your equalizer and other audio enhancements
- 'Settings'->'JetEffect'->'JetEfffect Preset' - Save those settings under any of the 10 Pxx blocks provided by clicking on 'Settings'->'Preset Save'

I understand all the settings are saved in the /SYSTEM/PARAM.CFG file in the player. I tried saving that file and restoring it after a firmware upgrade, but it never worked. Putting an old PARAM.CFG file resets all the settings to the defaults and I get the initial "Select the language" screen. So my question is if anyone knows a way to restore the settings after an upgrade.

I want to save my playlist and EQ for example, very annoying too fix it after every firmware upgrade....
