The only other full size phones for similar cost would be from Koss (pretty much any with the 60 Ohm driver). The SportaPro, PortaPro, PortaPro2, KSC35 (clip), KSC50 (clip), KSC55 (behind-the-neck), and KSC75 (clip).

do you know if those are comparable or better in performance? I've read good things about sennheiser so i figure i can't go too wrong with it

I don't know, as I haven't heard the Senns.
I think the 202s are an excellent choice. They're fully closed/sealed phones, so they block out background noise well on the streets/train - and don't leak hissing, rattling noise to annoy the hell out of my colleagues at work. They're cheap. They sound great. They're pretty comfortable for long periods.
I've been happy to recommend them to other people, and they've been happy to spend a meagre 20 quid to get them. Looking around the office I can see 5 pairs bobbing away happily.
I also own MX400 earbuds and a pair of low-end Grados. The MXs are great for occasions when I don't want to carry a pair of full-size phones. The Grados are great for home (the sound is in a different league to pretty much any headphone under £100- buy some!) - but way too open/leaky for use anywhere outside (in the city) or at work.
If you want a cheap, exciting pair of sealed/closed phones, get the 202s. If you don't mind a bit of sound leak, look at some of the other senns, the portas, or save up for some Grado SR60/80.

i ended up just getting the 202s. I haven't recieved them yet but i think they'll serve my purpose. I really didn't want to spend too much on headphones, and this seeemd pretty good for the price range with good reviews and all. I have a roomate so i'm sure he'll appreciate no sound leak. Thanks for the advice.
How's the bass on the 202s? I don't really like a lot of bass (I know, I'm odd). I have a pair of Senn HD 497s and the sound on those is perfect but they just don't provide any isolation at work. Do the 202s have similar sound?

nope. 202s are a bit bass heavy. try the new 201s - they're even cheaper and are supposed to sound great.
Im planning those Sennheiser 202, but then saw the 201's and now Im wondering which one to get? any ideas?
