View Full Version : Audio Line Out
Hello:
New to the forum as I just purchased a A2 and have been considering a headphone amp to go with my Shure SE-530s. Is there an way to get a pure audio line-out signal, without using the amplified headphone jack?
I know the a/v jack supplies line-out, but I don't want to use a tripple RCA cable. I'd like to simply use a straight audio cable with this output. Is there such a thing?
Thanks

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by 'straight audio cable'.
AFAIK the A2 comes with a 3.5mm jack to 3.5mm jack audio cable, which you can plug both into the a/v out and the headphone jack.
Otherwise, you can use the RCA cable and just ignore the video (yellow) channel when you plug it into your HiFi.
Obviously there is no SPDF or optical out if that's what you mean!

bjast, you're actually better off using the A2 headphone out directly with your 'phones. The sound is a little bright for some, but it's one of the best sources I've ever used. I use Future Sonics IEMs straight from the headphone out, and the only source I have that sounds better is a $300 external DAC that I use with my H120. The only reason you might need/want to use an amp with the Cowon A2 is if you have ridiculously high-impedance cans, or you're watching videos on a TV with the triple RCA connector.
That said, the ONLY way you should try using an amp would be with the supplied triple RCA connector. Using a regular stereo mini-to-mini will sound awful (I think the connections are different, as it sounds mono with a regular mini plug). I've never tried this myself, as again, the A2's own headphone out is abnormally good.
