View Full Version : Super annoying problem with SD card (or perhaps D2 itself)!

Hey guys. Maybe someone can relate or give me a little insight as to why this is happening (whether it be a known bug or whatever). Now I have a 2GB PQI SD card which works fine. I have music on it and it plays fine. It also loads fine WHEN MY D2 IS ALREADY ON. But if I have the card in at startup and I got to a music folder thats stored on the card all I get is "UNKNOWN" for the artist name, album, song title, everything. If I play one of these "UNKNOWN" songs my D2 freezes and I have to push the reset button. This problem actually caused me to have to use the reset button for the first time during my ownership of my current D2. Now, if I go in and see that everything is "UNKNOWN" the solution is to eject the card and then put it back in and after the long load everything plays fine. But picture this; I have to wait through 3 and a half circles at bootup, I go in and everything is "UNKNOWN", I then have to eject and reinsert the card and wait for 3+ more circles to load. THAT IS SO ANNOYING!!!![cursing]

SSSTTTTRAAAANGE!!!!!! Unbelievable! Okay so I just deleted and loaded a few things on to both the player and my SD card.....and the problem went away! IT GETS BETTER! Now my player boots up as fast as it did without any SD card in it! Literally like 3 dots of the circle. I thought to myself "wait a minute I must have dozed off or something because theres no way it loaded that fast AND all my music is playing properly." But sure enough..... I mean this thing used to go around that circle 3 and 1/2 to 4 times before I saw the menu screen! NO JOKE! I was starting to say "screw SD cards if they are going to take this long." One last thing that made me even more happy; my music is sorted again with no split up folders! I don't know why everything got fixed/improved all of a sudden. I didn't even upgrade my firmware. I changed nothing. ALl I did was decide to move some music around on the player and card. Both my 4GB player and my 2GB card have about 300mb free each. The card is loading faster with more music![thumbsup]

What firmware are you using?
Also once the card is loaded and the database built, it will load very quickly until you take the card out and put it back in then it has to build the database again.

Yea I was always sure that was the way it was SUPPOSED to be; but that wasn't the case until now. It used to be that it didn't matter whether I left the card in when it loaded or took it out, loaded it normally, then loaded the card in when it was all booted up. The same long wait occured. But, If I had left the card in (without ever removing it) it would not only take forever to load up (like I said 3.5 to 4 circles) but when it finally DID load up all my music on the card would show as UNKNOWN and when I tried to play them my D2 would freeze and require resetting. But all is well now thankfully!

2.46 by the way.

Did you do a firmware upgrade with the SD card in the D2? That could've caused the "Unknown" errors.

^I may have but I doubt it. Don't quite remember.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I didn't update the firmware with the SD card in it, so that's out...

Frustrating [cursing]

have a similar if not the same problem since i moved to a Transcend 8GB class 6 card, it does the unknown thing, but also

im changing songs, and suddenly the D2 does a soft reset and no longer finds the card, i have to remove and reinsert the card,

Few things I would try -

- Ejecting the SD card and re-inserting it to force the D2 to rebuild the index
- If you have a SDHC card reader, move files around and then insert into D2

Unfortunately, still nothing [cry]

It might be the firmware.

Thanks for the "hint". I downgraded to 2.45b and no problems. Hopefully this will be fixed...
