I'll be testing some new Flash games that are compatible with D2 and psot them here :) Feel free to suggest any games...

Compatibility:
[1] - Made for D2
[2] - Fully compatible
[3] - Not perfect, but quite playable/usable
[4] - Very hard to play/use on D2 ot major features missing
[5] - Nearly unplayable/unusable

My playability/quality rating:
[1] - Very Good
[2] - Good
[3] - Not bad
[4] - Not good
[5] - Catastrophy
[0] - Unrated

[+] - Special award

These rating will probably change drastically with the arrival of D2 games!

For the iriver u10 who seems to be pretty similar to the D2 regarding the flash feature. The recommended size is 320x240 and the framerate should be between 12-15 fps.

there is a problem with audio.... I am trying to run old flash graphical comedies, and they work just fine, graphically speaking, but it seems that AUDIO channels are only avail up to ONE. When the guy is speaking, and a music starts, the guy's voice stops and the music starts ... (they guy had to continue talking while music played in bkgnd!!)

The games that will be perfectly playable willl be made for D2... Still, I'll probably add another rating which will rate the overall playability of the game

I use a nice free little utility that scans your browser cache for flash games and movies that you have visited.
http://www.bytescout.com/files/MoviesExtractorScoutLite.exe
After it scans it gives you a list of everything it finds. You can right click on one in the list and choose copy. This will copy the url to your clipboard. Then you can just create a simple .html page that has a link on it. Something like:
<a href="http://www.someurl.com/flash.swf">Save</a>
Open that .html page and right click on the link to save it.
This works for most .swf files except ones that pull data from other pages or are otherwise protected.

I hope this helps. [smile]

thnx ;) I know quite a lot about Flash Lite limitations but I simply don't really want to port Flash games by decompiling them... First of all it should be the authors decision whether they want it to be playable on devices or not (ex. They are probably have some clickable ads in their games or are sponsored by portals that are not favorable to games on devices), additionally the best game will be always these specially made for D2 so it is much better to make our own games instead of copying... :)

You need to upgrade to 3.50 to use flash games and app. IMHO don't stick with 3.45, the fw has got serious problems.

I'm not sure if this has been noted yet, but all of the games I've tried from "minigate" (developer) load but seem to "hang" at a loading screen. There is some text but I can't read it.

-It seems as if the clix2 games are the best bet, if any for the d2.

-Using the stylus more often than not doesn't work. I don't think I've gotten it to work?

ok i found it in another post:

you can look at your cache and download it from there.

IE.
Tools -------> Internet Options -------> General tab ----> Browsing History Settings -----> View Files -----> Sort by type -> Copy the .swf file you want.

Mozilla.
type "about:cache" withouth the speech marks into the adress tab. Go to Disk Cache device and search for the swf file. It should have a link on it. Just right click and "save target as.."

Opera.
Almost same as firefox. type "opera:cache" into address tab. search for swf and "save target as..."

Remeber to clear your cache before you do this. It will make searching for the swf file a lot simpler and faster!

Some games do work with the the mouse configuration. be sure to select the touch screen option (as opposed to the four way controller). I'll post a few games soon!

(Thanks calcheese)

Here's a couple links to some touchscreen games that work nicely on the D2.

This is a Mahjongg game, it's 1.4MB and works nicely. Just takes about 20 seconds when setting up the board so be patient:
http://en.t45ol.com/play/526/mahjong.html

Another mahjongg, smaller file and less loading time:
http://en.t45ol.com/play/2737/mahjongg-deluxe.html

A quick 5 card poker game:

Here's a jewel swapping game like Bejeweled called Treasure Hunt:

A memory matching game:
http://lang.dailynews.com/socal/arkadium/game_metro_match.asp

Pyramid solitaire:
http://lang.dailynews.com/socal/arkadium/game_pyramid_solitaire.asp

Golf Solitaire:

All work well, the last two solitaire games suffer a bit graphically when reduced in size to fit the D2 screen, but all in all very enjoyable.

There are lots of great games that require the user to point and click a "Start" button and then use the directional arrows for game play. It would be nice to be able to toggle the game controls mid-game to allow these games to be used on the D2. That way one could point/click a start or begin button, and then toggle to directional control for gameplay.

Just an idea for future firmware. The point and click ability of the D2 already surpasses the Clix for flash use.

1) Go the the page with the Flash Game you want to download.
2) Select 'Page Info' from 'Tools' menu
3) Click the 'Media' tab
4) Select the *.swf file in the media list and click the 'Save As...' button.

Good news for everyone longing for a working 2 player chess flash game. I finally found one. It's drag and drop gameplay so you have to watch the rules yourself.

it's play-chess.swf

Here's a decent game. Its a stickman game, but its in 3D. You scroll through the 3D world shooting stickmen as they pop out from behind barricades and walls. (like the old Area 51 games) Sound doesn't work and you are supposed to pres the "space" bar to reload, but when it says re-load, just keep shooting because you never run out of bullets. It's very high on the cool factr anf the game is almost 2MB big and runs full speed.

Question...

...are there SWF mp3 flash players that can work in here?

Reason I ask is because I'm annoyed with the lack of multiple playlists just alittle bit, and as my random mind ponders realize that many flash mp3 players runs off of a playlist... soooooooooooooooo.... :D

(waits for seifip to code one up if there isn't one specifically available)

What I would really need is a Flash Calender !
Anyone knows one ???

Got the attached calendar off of the Mistic River site and itsfor the U10, but it starts in 2004. I've only tried it out on my PC, haven't tested it on the D2.

I've searched the net and can't seem to find anything else. Would love something that reads the current date off the D2 and gives a full month view calendar for the current date.

It would be even better if Cowon developed something (not necessarily flash) that used a similar keyboard as the dictionary function to be able to input small scheduled appointments. That would be awesome.

so are there any tetris games that work?

this one should work (http://www.ptm.fi/)... but hmm how do you select or hit the start button? the arrow emu seems to be the way to go but no way to select...

i think we need a lot more flash emu buttons then just the directional buttons and the m... what about coding the + - keys as well? how about like start/select-menu or something along those lines?

this one (http://www.sephiroth.it/weblog/archives/2007/04/flashlite_and_python_games_for_my_nok.php)also cant get past the screen no other buttons coded :/

Impossible. Even if it would work, it is not possible to change between touchscreen-mode and arrow-mode. If you search for a game it has to be playable only by mouse or only by keay arrows. Every name you have to type in or enter you have to press is too much.

Hey, guys, i'm new here, been browsing as a guest for a while and today just started browsing flash sites and trying a few games out on my D2 and i've found quite a few nice ones so far that actually work nicely.

Conundrum (http://icebone.dyndns.org/flash/Conundrum.swf) - a variation on the "Lights out" game, kinda weird interface, not really accurate - CLICK controls
Domino (http://icebone.dyndns.org/flash/domino.swf) - make sure all the dominos fall and smash the tomato - CLICK controls
Maze (http://icebone.dyndns.org/flash/maze.swf) - get the red circle to the blue square - ARROW controls (minor flaw, if you get trapped, you need to start over)
Pixelfield (http://icebone.dyndns.org/flash/pixelfield.swf) - get all the red pixels through an obstacle course and collect the blue pixels - CLICK controls

more to come :)

I have one, it's called Proximity, I played it a long time ago and found recently that it worked on my D2 - it's a territory-based tile game, pretty fun, and perfect for touch screen.

http://www.needtoshout.com/video/nae/183428_proximity.swf

henrycow

on the sudoku game, you select one of the games - there are two sets of 9 games for each difficulty level, then select start. The games never load first time so click it again and the game will load up. Once you've finished these games, you can edit the data file, creating new games by copying the numbers top left to bottom right from a book/newspaper puzzle, using zeros to represent blank spaces. This is a bit tedious, so maybe sudoku players could post their new data files here and we can swap them wouldn't that be fun.

no offence to anyone but the vast, vast majority of these flash games are absolutely useless on the D2.

the only decent ones either run too slow or can't be operated as you need one control set to navigate the in-game menus at the beginning and then the other control method to play it.
also they either have very poor glitchy sound or no sound at all, and you can't even listen to music while you play them.

it's a shame.

I don't know if there are some among you who like to play miniature golf but me and my friends do. So I wrote a little flash app for the d2 to help you keep track of the scores during the game because I always found it a pain to write them down (especially because we often play in the evening when it's too dark to see what you're writing [biggrin]). I just thought I'd share it here in case anyone has a use for it. It should be pretty self explanatory how to use it.

haha thanks a lot, man! i like that title [rofl]

what I forgot to tell you about the golf-app:
-you don't have to create the players in the right order. once you've created them you can drag them into their position. (once you left the player-creating mode you can't do that anymore though)
-it only supports up to 8 players
-it can't save anything. if you exit the application, everything is gone. that also means you should set "LCD Auto off" to "Always" (in the Display-Settings).

Can you give the detailed steps to run Super Mario in D2 rockbox.
For instance what is the extension which is needed for the game module.
What have to be activated for Rockbox to read it.
And any other trick to get the game to play.

Well, all the flash apps in this thread is supported by most firmwares, and absolutly 2.57. There are some other great apps to, check thinkquicks thread as a start...and the games sticky.

Actually, if you find the data file and give it a .txt extension, you can open them and read them on a computer.

Well, it is. You don't even have to convert them. Just grab the flash games from the internet and they should be in the right format. Just make sure it's games that only use mouse input or only arrows. No other buttons supported on the D2 you know.
