black! 1 gig! it was either this or an ipod for 50 bucks more .... but size is really, really important to me. i'm glad to be a starting member of what looks like will be a great community.

a little background about my audio tastes -
i've always been into md, and my last portable system was a sony MD R50 line out to an amp / shure E2c. it sounded incredible, but was too big. i bought this player because all i need is a gig, and i love the features. i am also a very active member of head-fi.org, i really recommend that yall start accounts there and get yourselves some good cans. heres hoping that my iaudio can compete with my $3,000 system! hehe :)

Sources are NAD 541i and E-MU 1212m. Interconnects are Headphile Blacksilvers. Amp is a Singlepower MPX3-6cg7 with cap upgrade and dual inputs. Headphones are Sony MDR-CD3000. Bumping it now, love it more than i could ever imagine!

I've always wanted to know what a true Audio Nut thinks of the iAUDIO series ...

My neighbour has custom built speakers in his house that fill a whole wall. He makes his own power, because the normal power is "poisoned" and destroys his fenomonal sound. Incl amps en sources etc it costed him around 28000 euro's (35000 dollar I guess). IMO he's the true Audio Nut, but he finds the Iaudio crap in every sense :)

He hears noise all the time (which I hear too after I've heared the true clear sound of his system.... But heh, you pay for that :P

Did you make sure that all BBE Effects and stuff were off.

But yeah - I'm sure a miniature device in the 100 dollar price range can't compete with that kinda stuff.

exity - do you enjoy the BBE / EQ on the u2? i'm usually not into editing the sound path at all, but if it works well i might try it.

Usually I leave the BBE and EQ on flat, but sometimes I max out the Mach3Bass and blast my ears :D

well, this thing is pretty cool. jetaudio was incredibly quick - ordered i think on thursday and got it today (monday). literally one hour after i ordered (at 6 pm pst about) i had a confirmation from UPS that the billing info had been received for the shipment, and the device was on the road the next day. awesome customer service so far ... :)

i upgraded the firmware to the korean 1.4 i think it is, and the update went fine. no biggie. i'm assuming there are some new features in the update, which is funny because i didn't know the old features anyway.

this player really is as tiny as you think it is. its rediculous! i cannot feel it in my pocket at all. definately smaller than a lighter, though it's a bit thicker. i cannot comment on the sound quality yet, mostly because there seems to be two kinds of bassboost and an EQ. i need to fine tune my settings (to my ear) before i do any hardcore SQ testing. However, bass is definately present and the supplied earbuds aren't half bad. drives the cans to a very high volume, too.

i always thought 1 gig was big, but as i was ripping a few cd's to mp3 (--alt preset standard LAME thru EAC) i realized that i was quite limited in space. this is OK as the drive loads mp3's very quickly, and i can rotate albums in and out easily i currently have 10 albums on there for about 700 MB, so i hope this is enough free space (i plan on leaving .5 gig free) for voice recordinrg needs.

well there's my brief (and random) writeup for this unit. i didn't really mean to type it, but i had to find something to do in the 5 minutes it takes to load my player.

oh ya fyi - the unit, when browsing to files, displays them as they appear in windows. in the playback window it uses ID3 tags i think. however, its a pain in the ass to nav to songs if your titles are like "01 - Joni Mitchell - Court and Spark" because the screen is only long enough to display "01 - Joni Mitchell" so you have to wait for auto scroll to read the track title. luckily i only have 100 mp3's (hehe i'm a lossless fan), so i just retitled them all and will have EAC do this for me in the future.

why dont u arrange ur files into Artist folder then Album! Then have the titles display as just the song title! And Artist will show up above that...

yeah, that was why i went and renamed all my tracks. luckily eac can rip everything into the correct folders, etc. i got my ex71 today, the bass is so freaking rediculous on them hahah.
