Etymotic ER6. I find them to be the best compromise for my various music tastes. I also prefer them because they block out surrounding noise such as a baby crying on an airplane.
Ssony mdr-ex71sl.
Once you've found the right size sleeve for your ear, they have pretty decent sound.
Main reason I like them is because they fit comfortably under a bike helmet, and still sound good :)
Shure E2C, the best part of this one is to give you good base and it has two years warranty.

Etymotic ER-6i. Sibling to the ER-6 but slightly different. I like the white color with the G3 1GB color scheme.
And as jwalkabout discusses, the noise isolation is very nice in noisy environments like aircraft. I fly on average one round trip per week for work on all types of commercial planes.
Are they expensive? I guess. Is my hearing worth it, not having to drown out environmental noise? Definitely. And it can be an uncanny experience to hear the sounds like they are directly in your head. Some music doesn't sound like it is coming from the outside world. So it is an entirely immersive audio experience.

Bang & Olufsen A8. I don't like inner canalphones, so the next best bet were these. They sound wonderful, they are aesthetically captivating, and are quite comfortable.
Another Shure E2c here. Amazing phones. I just need to make a decision on a player now :P
sensaphonics 2xs
Ety's were overly detailed and high-end balanced, Shure's (e5c) had too large of a hump in the mid-low range... and i just cant get any sleeves ive tried to be that comftorable.
The sensa's, perfect... linear tonal quality- articulate yet musical, isolate sound like no other, insanely comftorable. The cons- price, warranty (only 6 months), and resale value.
As for waiting on a player... shit- im still using my (non mp3) sony discman for portable use. Been waiting on the x5 since I first saw the specs... had to kill my order for the iriver.

Koss KSC50 (soon to be trashed)
Koss KSC75 (great bang/buck)
Shure E3c...soon. Very soon. I didn't go with the E2c, as I already think the Koss have a bit much in the low end--even though it would save me $60.
ER6 costs ca 89 at amazon and Shure E3C costs $120 at least. Sounds like ER6 is a better deal considering that they are very similar
nope er6 is not the er6i (lower impendance version).
i myself use the ex51lp at the moment. little sturdy and comfortable phones which aint give me a heard attack when breaking..

E2C for me. These things are great for the metal and techno I listen to. With the new soft rubber earpieces, I barely know that they're in my ears...until someone is trying to talk to me, that is :)
