Hi all, I've been talking to a few online places that do international mail forwarding to pretty much anywhere in the world. All you basically do is direct the seller to ship the item to this address in the US and then they will forward it onto you for a fee.
Most of the prices are pretty steep but apparently there is a lot of extra shyte involved due to September 11. I think you can probably get the X5 out of the States for about $50-70 USD and considering the base price difference of the 20GB X5 is $299 USD compared to 349 Euros even this isn't bad. And since Suntec offer you a $10 discount and free shipping within the US its really not a bad deal to start off with.
I am currenlty in negotiation with someone who runs a mail forwarding company who seems like he might be willing to negotiate the cost somewhat. I've told him about the forum and the price differences and that if he gives me a good deal I'll post it in here and he'll probably get some more business from you guys. Of course I will check out guarantees and legitimacy of the business to ensure everything looks ok before I recommend anything.
I'll keep you up to date with what is going on.

Ok getting mail out of the USA through an "agent" is a real frikin pain in the ass. You basically need to open an account with one of these mailing agencies. Opening the account is the biggest problem because you need to fill out a USPS form 1583 "application for delivery of mail through agent" and then get it signed by the equivalent of a US Notary. I expect this is Justice of the Peace here in Australia. Not sure what it would be in other parts of the world.
We are trying to figure out how this can be done through a single account but given the limitations on the 1583 I really don't know how yet.
Does anyone else know anything about this stuff that can offer ideas? I'm being stretched.

You don't need an agent to send out of the U.S. Just box it up and send it USPS Express Mail. They deliver everywhere in the world with few exceptions and it's insurable and trackable.

I am in Australia trying to buy the X5 from Suntec who only ship to US/Canadian addresses. I need someone else in the States to forward the thing on to me. How am I supposed to do this without an agent acting on my behalf?

Look, i ship a lot of packages all over the world. To ship an X5 from the U.S. to Australia at say, 4lbs would cost approx. $35-$40US and would be there in 5-7 business days. Chances are if you mark it as a gift on the customs declaration, no duties or customs fees will be levied.
I also receive shipments from other countries regularly. I get cartons from Korea monthly. The shipments cost approx. $100US and I am not charged any customs fees and all shipments are via EMS (Express Mail Service)

OK I don't think we are quite understanding each other here...
Suntec do not ship to Australia or Europe or Asia.
Other places in the US may very well ship to Australia or these other countries... but suntec is, as far as I know, the only US website advertising the X5 currently.
I understand that normally getting mail out of the US is not a problem, however when the place you are trying to get mail from does not ship mail to your country is does present a bit of a issue. So unless you are offering to ship X5 all over the world for us, I just don't understand what you are talking about.

If anyone wants me to purchase one for them and ship secure with fedex or DHL please let me know I would be more than happy to do it. Of course i don't expect anyone to take me up on the offer since no one would probably trust me with their hard earned money but I promise you I wont steal from you.
But then again....by the time it is available in the US it would probably be available in EUR and AUS and CAD. But if not I will ship for you guys. I live 2 blocks from UPS and FedEx
Hi, Somehow,I don't think Australia will have the X5 at the same time as Europe or the states :( We are usualy well well behind. I got a friend to buy it for me in the States and ship it. can't wait. Does anyone knows for sure when it will be released in the states?!?
Thanks!
Lucky country, my arse...
