Hi all.
My D2 journey begins..
I do no tknow what state the battery was in before it arrived.
Been on charger for 7 hours after arrival and i cannot turn it on (and stay on)..
I see the startup screen come on but then turns off.
What am I missing here?
Should I be seeing the organge circle (at on/off switch) during charge?

Connect it to your PC with the USB plug and see what happens. Could just be that it is trying to play a file that is not there, or corrupt, or that some of the system files are screwed up. You wanted to upgrade the firmware to 2.46 anyway, right!!
If it won't work right connected to a PC, then RMA it fast.

Thanks for input GSV.
OK - now screen is on whilst charging.
I am not able to access any touch icons whilst charging but - is this ok still?

Thoughts?

So try to get there a new FW(2.46). You'll get it here including the instruction:
http://www.cowonglobal.com/zeroboard...bmenu=download
Maybe it helps you. It is also possible, that AC adapter is defective, but everybody got the D2 with almost full battery and it was possible to start it without problem, therefore I guess problem is in D2...

Thanks.
Can you or anyone advise if it normal for screen to turn itself off if not touched for a period of time?
Thanks.

It is possible to set in menu/setttings/timer/Auto off (off/1/2/3/4/5/10/30 min)
Whenever player doesn't play anything(music, video, radio, pictures) it will switch off...
while the D2 is charging, after a period of time, the screen will turn off.
Now go upgrade your firmware please.

Re: firmware update - there are 2 differetn instructions for 2 different exisitng firmware already on the D2 units.
As I cannot see my D2 screen turned on at all I do not know which firmware I have and hence do not know which instruction to follow downloading 2.46.
Help?
Nandgate
Thanks.

No, just copy FW files from folder "0" to root directory(via PC), unplug D2, start player and after it switch off(in a little bit), plug in again and copy next folder ("1") and so on...
And beware: all files will be lost including Cowon logo, video, pictures, etc.

Follow the first instructions - all three folders...

Ok - done the 2.46 Firmware update and successful.
battery is still charging.
While battery is still charging, can i access the icons or not?
If not, how long must I wait until I can access the icons?

After the firmware 2.46 upgrade, what files should I re-install in the first instance?
PS - I have not used unit at all and hence not put any of my files in tit.

D2 is possible swich on during charging via AC adapter, but not via USB. But you needn't wait to full charge. Player contain a Li-pol battery, so don't fear about it... So you try to unplug and try to start D2...

You need not to install any files. Just switch on the player if it is OK...

Why woudl it charge with PC and not through AC?
Well the most obvious reason would be that the charger is broken. However it seems that what you think of as 'off' may just be the screen powering down, or the unit going to sleep. They'll all do that if nothing is happening, although you can alter the timeout.
From the PC you should be able to access the 'disk' that is the D2 and see what is there .. also upgrade the firmware, and then add some music files. At that point you can start proper testing (like will it stay on and play music or not).
so whats the craic now man, you have upgraded I see.
How are you charging the Unit? via USB or the included AC adapter?
Folks, please consolidate your posts. There's no reason to make 2 consecutive posts if you can just update your first post to include the additional information, and posting 5 minutes apart is ridiculous.
Thanks.

Have you done this yet, nandgate? Or maybe display LCD off? Just got mine yesterday, default setting for screen shut off i think was 10s.

OK - thanks for your reposnsive posts everybody!
Unit works - without being plugged into PC - but has a 3 sec shutdown for screen shut off.
I have tried to alter this using
"menu/setttings/timer/Auto off (off/1/2/3/4/5/10/30 min)" and set to 2 min. Stil shuts off at 3 secs.
Please advise how I can expand this auto screen shut off longer than 3 secs..

You want display, lcd auto off; what you are currently adjusting is the actual shutdown time. I suggest you read the manual. if you can't find it in the box it is available on line.

Thanks boys. I think I have nutted that one out..
What does "Settings/Timer/auto off" do then?
How is this different to "...display/lcd off"?
The manual i got was prety sparse I must say..
Will try for the online version..
Nandgate
I don't own a D2, but if it's like the X5, turning the LCD off just turns off the backlight (if you're playing music for instance), while turning the "auto" off turns off the player itself if it's not playing a video or something.
