I'm wondering whether or not to get an X5 of an M3,,

Are there any advantages to the X5 apart from the colour screen? Because if you look at it you're paying £30 more for 10GB less, plus a screen thats pretty much a novelty. As the screen is on the player you'll need to take it out your pocket to do anything and well, get mugged.

Is there anything I'm missing? Anyother reason to get the X5 over the M3? I'm not really interested in the limited video playback as it's tiny and I have a psp for that. Any significant internal audio changes or id3 databases or better menus? Cause M3 is looking like a better deal still even though it's being 'replaced'

What about the USB OTG (Universal Serial Bus On The Go) function? I think that's the biggest advantage to the X5.
..and it looks just a little bit cooler than the m3... ;)

Is that where you can put stuff from a camera onto the machine? It's alright but not that useful. Now if it could go the other way and put stuff onto the PSP, now that'd maybe go some way to forgiving the 10 whole gig loss

Yes, that's what I mean.

10GB loss?

anyway...the m3 seems to be the better choice for you.

I forgot to mention something that - IMO - is a great advatage:
the x5 seems to have a timer function.
So I can throw my old ghetto blaster away if I get some speakers! :)

if you're not interested in a colour screen, usb-otg, the movieplay then you should buy the m3.

The X5 will have a clock function, and all the features that go with it, (alarm, sleep timer ect).
Also, since it is Cowon's second generation player it will be better packaged over all. All the mistakes they made with the M3 should be worked on by Cowon. But if you have no use for the mentioned features just buy the M3.

i think X5 has higher bitrate inline encoding.. if that is important ?

Most likely a better processor too for processing the movies, images. So it would work better.

10GB loss?

The X5 initially comes in 20GB and 30GB for basically the same price as the 40GB M3

But the trade off is that the 30GB version is the same size as the 20GB.

I am also torn between the M3 and the X5, since I want to upgrade from my iRiver H120 (it's full).

The reason I shy away from the M3 is that I use the unit mostly at home, so I don't know if I'll like the remote interface.

What annoys me about the X5 is the need to buy the remote extra - all of a sudden, the price difference between the M3 and X5 becomes VERY big, especially if you also want a cradle.

Why do you need an MP3 player if you mostly use it at home?

why don't you buy a (non)portable mp3player with 60 gb?
that's not to expensive(I think?) and you've solved you're remote problem.

Because I have moved between 3 countries in the last 2 years and also like to take it with me when I travel. So far the H120 has been great, it's just running out of capacity.

What's a timer function please?

Any reviews or links? I've never heard of one of those, please.

well, i dont got any links, but it's about the same size as a dvd/cdplayer. you can link it on to your pc/mac and put music on it. then you plug it into your receiver and play it trough your boxes.
i will search for a link but on shopping.com there are some nonportable mp3players to buy,
go to electronics--> mp3-players--> click on 20 gb or more--> click on page 7/8/9/10. in one of those pages you will find it.

An example would be the Terratec C.A.R. 4000:

There is also a model from Pontis....

But they can be quite expensive...

Edit: You could also use a MS Xbox for that purpose. You only have do to put another BIOS in it and the you can use Linux or XBMC for it...
