No change compared to 3.45, it is just an emergency patch for people who had trouble getting their D2 to boot when they had songs with certain lyrics...

Cowon quickly released the firmware as fast as possible for such people.

Otherwise, you can safely stick to 3.45.[smile]

WARNING: This firmware is intended for Korean D2's only and there are 2 different versions (DMB & Non-DMB) and the instructions are all in Korean and support will not be provided by Cowon if you install this firmware. Remember that this will VOID your warranty - any issue with compatibility is not guaranteed.

I suggest you wait for the Global Firmware to come out - this usually comes out 24 hours later than the Korean Firmware. Can you wait 24 hours? (That is the question...)

Well mine was flashed with 2.21 fw when I have gotten it (Poland).

So I suppose it's Global version of D2 and I should stick with 2.xx fw (it's shame as I love eng-eng dictionary).

What version of fw have Korea's D2 loaded from start?

I have 3.45beta, with the lite dictionary and it runs fine on my UK-bought D2.
I believe that the Korean non-DMB D2s are the same as the international ones.
Of course with all the problems with the current update, I would be careful.

Hi Michalaq :) I try to improve my English on this forum :-D

I flashed mine D2 to 3.45b and then to 3.45 but after reading about booting problems I reverted to 2.45 and now I'm missing dictionary very much :(

I haven't had any problems with 3.xx firmware on my D2 but I rather have warranty than dictionary :>

I think the Non DMB version D2 in Korea is exactly the same as we use.

All is made in Korea ;)

Where do you have this information from? Never heard that before!

Has anyone uploaded this firmware to his D2 yet? :-)

Me :-) Dictionary has win over Cowon's warranty in my case ;-)

D2 is working fine with this new fw :-) But I have practically left it's internal memory alone as my mp3 are stored on SDHC. I have only loaded powerdic lite, fontpatch, some small audiobook, txt and jpg - there is at last 1GB free memory.

And as my mp3 aren't embedded with lyric I have no idea what change this new fw brings over 3.45 version :>

I was kinda hoping the 2.45 might be out by now, who knows mavbe they'll skip it and go straight to 2.46 (hopefully soon) [yes]

I'm wondering what's happened to 2.45 too......I guess we'll have to wait a bit for 2.46 now!

I found what looks like firmware version 2.46 HERE (http://www.cowonglobal.com/download/Firmware/cowonD2/D2_2.46.zip), but I have not installed it and I don't know if it is official yet. Waiting for someone suicidal to give it a try... I'm not ready to brick by D2 just yet.

You Da Man!... Tell us what you find new and improved. My D2 and 8GB SDHC are almost full. I don't want to try this upgrade right now because I'm on my way to work. Did you have to re-sync all your music? Did you have to follow the instructions transferring the content of 0, 1, 2 or did you just need to transfer the content of the 1, 2 folders? When I upgraded to 2.45 beta from 2.41 official I only had to use 1, 2 and did not have to re-sync my data.

Allright, my D2 is now also working in version 3.46 (i flashed from version 2.45b, no problems at all).
The dictionary is funny, the yellow pen is absolutely brilliant!!!111one *cough*.
And: I didnt notice any syncronisation problems with movies anymore! In 2.45b I had sync. issues when skipping in a file, everything seems perfectly in sync now! yay!

I'm almost out the door and on the way to the subway to join the chained gang... Did you use the content of 0, 1, 2 folders or just 1 and 2?... If you used the former was your music and video content left intact? I assume that you lost your settings... correct?

Thanks dude, works a treat! Just re-transferring my files now, and grrr I hate having to re-modify the resource file to get the UI looking how I like it, changing the default cover art box, changing colour of the scroll bar, making certain buttons invisible, etc... *sigh*

I used the 0, 1 and 2 folders. Player is formated, all settings lost. But i wrote them down before, so no harm done [wink]

I hesitate to ask, but does the shuffle work properly yet ? I have a total of 126 albums on the player and sd card, and only one of them is Miles Davis complete master recordings 1954. If I shuffle through 30 tracks, about 5 of them will be from this one album, and two of these will be the same track.
The player will select the other tracks from about half a dozen other albums only. i don't think that's proper shuffling.

This happens on 2.41 and 2.45b, but thankfully not in 2.21.

Could someone try the 30 track shuffle experiment on 2.46 and save me the bother of the upgrade - I would be very grateful !

well it works.
since I'm under the assumption that firmware is not easy to code I believe it to be authentic.

Back from the grind... working long hours... no time to play with the D2.

The firmware comes from the same place that other "officially" released firmwares come from. It comes from Cowon Global site, but I'm not saying that it is "official". All I did was change the name for the link to download firmware from D2_2.45b.zip to D2_2.46.zip. One of the oldest tricks in the book. It usually works if the name given to the files of subsequent releases are named following the same sequential naming convention. But... you can call me clairvoyant.

Has anyone found details on what's new and improved on this release? Is it worth upgrading from 2.45b? As I understand it... the new features in this release should be the same as those "barely" described for 3.45... but without the dmb and dictionary support. I read somewhere that there are only minor "installation problems" fixes from 3.45 to 3.46.

EDIT: Someone posted a link to the "officially" released firmware 2.46 05/17/07 (http://www.iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=14844) - The list of new features is listed in the first post

I can confirm henrycow that shuffle is as bad as ever. I noticed a slight improvement in 2.45b and others reported that 2.46 seem to shuffle well. But for me it is as bad as it was in 2.41. I have over 3000 songs on the D2 and just doing a quick test, one song was repeated about 4 times in the first 30 songs. Another was repeated 3 times and another twice.

It is really starting to piss me off now. Enough already Cowon with the notepads and other fluff. Fixup some of these long standing problems first.

Other significant problems include:

1) Startup time suggests it is indexing the files on each start. Prior to upgrading, startup time was one revolution. It is now over ten.

2) OGG track indexing still does not work so the only option for playing albums in the correct order is via the folder browser.

I am thinking of rolling back to 2.45b since nothing I was hoping to be fixed in 2.46 appears to be done and in fact it appears worse.

EDIT: It appears after a few restarts, the startup time has reduced to the usual one revolution.

You are correct dicky dave - the shuffle is "the same as it ever was", or at least exactly how it has been since they introduced id3. 2.21 is the last firmware to give a decent shuffle. I don't know if this is my imagination, but when I loaded 2.46 the shuffle seemed reasonable, but as I have used it over the last few hours, it seems to be falling back into the same old rut. what I have definitely noticed is that it seems to pick tracks from the first 20 folders as they appear listed alphabetically on the player, with a peak at folder number 9, and next to nothing from any subsequent folder or the SD card.
I suppose if people only have 20 albums on the player they won't notice anything wrong !
