Disagree, Ive had the a2 and now have the 504 and dont see any difference in the quality, Archos have their advantages, ie larger harddrives, removable battery (very handy for plane trips), navigation buttons are way better than the joystick of the a2, whereas the battery life is better on cowon and include more codecs and supply an ac adapter.

Believe it's a cultural difference between Asia vs. Europe regarding marketing. But I may be wrong.

I've owned (and returned) a 504. Static electricity shutdowns/freezes are common in a lot of the 504 units. (Was happening to me 3 times a day under heavy use. I could also make it happen by choice if I wanted too. Not great when you want to skip the next song and driving.) Do a google search. Archos c/svc is aware of it and has no solutions. (Metal exterior does not help) Audio output is also very low compared to any Creative unit I've owned - and also compared to an older av340 I owned. (Only equal to 70% of the volume of these other units.) Unit creates hissing when run through my car radio. None of the other units had (or have) this issue - so def related to 504 audio volume. (MP3 gain did not correct.) Other than that it works well. No unit is perfect but the 504 has a lot of unforgivable flaws.

Looking forward to comparing Cowon 60Gb units vs Archos's new 05 generation.

Too bad nothing comparable is available in U.S. (or by reasonable import) that I can buy right now.

Still... an new independent English review of the Q5 would be nice.

All this internet stuff over Wi-Fi with both Archos and Cowon is over-rated! It's so expensive here in Canada it does not make it worth it. I will not use it.

All I'm looking for is HIGH QUALITY which is why i'm leaning towards Cowon. All I want to do is store my MP3's, movies and PDF books on one of these things so I can have them anywhere I go.

Why would I want to pay MORE monthly fees??? I discontinued my cable (thanks to bittorrent), cell phone is pay as you go (rarely use it), and reduced all other monthly charges tremendously! All the money I've saved the last 3 months, I will probably buy a Cowon Q5 with money to spare in the bank. I am not looking for a product that will cost me monthly. That's why I don't think it's worth waiting for G5 Archos. It's a LIABILITY...not an ASSET!

Also from what I understand, conversion of videos won't be neccessary with all the codecs included in COWON which is not the case with Archos.

I'm with you with internet access, which I don't really see as a big advantage, and more of a battery consuming thing, expensive access for little real use.

On your home LAN, wifi access might be neat though as you could probably stream videos from your main video server.

I am on the fence on the Q5, because I have analyzed my usage and what I value the highest is the long battery life on my A2. I often take long plane trips and 7 hours video would be a let down for me. Question is would the rest of the features make it worth losing battery autonomy.

Remember people mainly post on forums when they have problems, considering the amount Archos sell the percentage of problem posts are low that Ive seen. Im a heavy music user and lately have been using my 504 about 8 hours a day and its been flawless. An archos fan site you may want to browse

Back OT, Ive used wifi for streaming and its a gimmick feature imo, id rather drop the file onto the device as it has a tendency to freeze. But you can copy files this way from your main computer to the device but it takes so long. Once there is a fix for this it may well be the way of the future.

I am following this thread daily.
I saw some post about release day in June for USA.
I don't know how Cowon going to release it internationally but 3DNews reported today, that Cowon Q5 coming in Russia in August[sad] . I can only hope that it will get earlier in US.

I am not going to translate it, unless you ask. Spec is the same as in release news for Korea (including DMB). As far as I know there no DMB in Russia.

I spoke to a person from CowonAmerica, they listed that Q5 will be released in US in aug/sept. I guess we will know the closer date when they start putting english information on CowonGlobal.

For me its either Q5 or X7.
