it really isnt that hard to upgrade firmware, all you gotta do:
1) turn off your D2, plug it into your computer , then download and open the firmware folder
2) open the d2 folder, and be in the ROOT folder of your d2
3) open the folder titled "0" of the firmware you downloaded
4) drag that file into the ROOT folder of the d2 (the main folder that has all of the other folders in it)
5) once finished transferring, disconnect your d2; it should say GOOD BYE and shut off.
6) proceed and turn it on, then wait for it to go through its upgrade. after it upgraded, plug it BACK IN
7) repeat these steps with the each folder "1" "2" and so on, sequentially, one FILE at a time. That means everytime you put in a file, disconnect and turn on the D2 to let it upgrade.
At various times in the upgrade, your d2 may show a whitescreen or just look like its messed up; if you did this right, just CONTINUE till you update with the last file.

Well, I did not do it right..........I dragged the folder into my MAc instead of the file for folders 0 and 1, 2 apparently I did right. Now, the screen is screwed up. Question is what to do. Folders 0 and 1 still appear in Root.....they didn't upgrade....do I deinstall, reset...??????
Reset won't help you. All that does is turn off the player.
I think what you need to do is delete those two folders that you installed wrong, and then reinstall from the beginning. Considering the problems others have been having, I would be nervous in your position, starting a new firmware install on top of one that wasn't completed properly. However, I don't see what other approach you could take.
This time, follow the directions carefully and EXACTLY! If you do it wrong, you could brick your player and then you will have to RMA it.
Also, it may be overkill, but I clear the memory of everything I've added and reset to default settings before upgrading firmware. Then I completely shut down, unplug, and restart my computer. Then I make sure the player is plugged into the primary USB slot and upgrade the player with no applications running. When you are ready to install the firmware, press reset to make sure the player is really off before you plug it in to your computer, and make sure you really turn it off between each step. If you have an SD card, make sure you remove it from the player.
Finally, don't be too quick to dump a full load of music on to the player immediately after you've installed new FW. Boot it up first to make sure everything looks normal. Then load just a few hundred MB and test it out. The manual says you should always leave at least 5MB free for the OS, etc. but I would leave five times that just to be safe. 25MB really isn't much to sacrifice anyway.

Also if you have a saved "radio.ini" file, do not upload it again to the player until you have started the radio ones and made the correct settings for your region.
If you do copy it over before that nothing really bad will happen except that the "radio.ini" file gets cleared of its radio settings and you will have to copy it again.
