I'm having a problem with a big spot of water (sweat to be more precise) trapped in the touch screen. How could I remove it before damage occurs? At the moment, the device works just fine but on low batt. I really don't think i should charge it while the water is sill there. Any solution? Thank in advance

TBH i cant see a way of drying this without opening it. However by opening it it will propably void the warrenty

That's kind of disgusting :P Try putting the D2 on it's side and "squeegeeing" it out?

Seriously though, I don't now what you should do if squeezing it out doesn't work. I know I'd be damn annoyed and worried in your situation.

If you have the confidence and a set of precision screwdrivers, youc sould disassembkle your D2 like they did over at anythingbutipod (http://www.anythingbutipod.com/archives/2007/02/cowon-iaudio-d2-disassembled.php). Gonna void your warranty though.
And another problem might be that even if it dries, sweat might leave behind a salty residue, that might or might not be visible.

The D2 is not meant to be waterproof, but it shouldn't just take in sweat like that (well, dpends what you were doing with it, really...). You could try claiming warranty, but it's a long shot.

Good luck! Hope you manage to get it fixed.

yeah Thanks. I'm considering disassembling it. Well.... fxck the warranty. I guess by letting the sweat in like that would probably void the warranty anyway???!?! Besides, it wouldn't be worth it in my case as I didn't buy D2 in my home country.

So I took it to the gym with me one day. And darn it, i forgot the case. But I didn't think this would happen.

I wouldn't want to squeeze it out as it will totally wet the screen in wider area. And the sweat wouldn't dry right out. At the moment, a friend suggested that I put D2 in a bucket of rice. That should help absorbing the moisture. Well, it helps... a a little. So, i am gonna wait one more day before trying disassembling it. Then again, I am not very technical. Just one little wonderment. It looks to me that the water is trapped under the touchscreen. According to the picture from anythngbutipod.com, i don't see a way to like "open up" the screen to the inside... dry it out... and put it back together. OR am i just wrong?

Thanks for the help anyway ;)

yAt the moment, a friend suggested that I put D2 in a bucket of rice. That should help absorbing the moisture.

Silica Gel (from pharmacist) or other dessicant would work even better. Problem is they'll only get the water, and any dissolved solids (in sweat, mostly salt) are going to be left behind. Putting it somplace warm (but not above about 40c) would speed things up too.

By any chance, do you have a screen protector on? I know this sounds dumb, but I'm thinking you might have the original thin plastic sheet over the screen that came with the D2. If so, you can just peel off the protector [smile]

Another thing to note is that the touchscreen has a little 'warp' or bubble in the middle. If you press the screen in the center, you can feel the gap. It could be that your sweat didn't get into the screen. It might just be moisture that formed from the air that's trapped in the touchscreen. If so, the moisture should evaporate, leaving no residue. I've installed a lot of Shieldzone screen protectors on D2 players, and it uses a spray liquid, and I use a squeegee to push the liquid out from under the protector. Some of it must go under the D2's bezel, and none of the liquid has ever gotten under the screen. So I would think your sweat couldn't have gotten under there...

Of course, I'd probably end up taking apart my D2, but I thought I'd run these ideas by you.

Good luck and I hope your D2 dries out on its own! [smile]

Here in Sweden there is a company (www.abtech.se) that sells spare parts for pretty much everything in the D2. They have the LCD touch screen for about $75. Maybe that could be something for you... I think the official part number is D2-LC00001.
