View Full Version : Screen messed up?

Ok, this is scaring me. I just have my F2 for one day, and now the screen's acting up. I was listing to a set, turned on the screen, and suddenly the screen is way too bright. Turning it off & on won't work, nor changing the screen settings. I've reset the player to factory defaults, tried the reset button - all to no avail. Heck, I even updated the firmware from 1.10 to 1.13; nothing.

It looks as if the LCD's refresh rate is messed up, but I don't know for sure. Please help!

If you have a digital camera it would help a lot to post a picture, but a 'psychic debugging' guess would be that you've got a failed bit of hardware and you should RMA it.

fwi LCDs don't really have a meaningful 'refresh rate', but they do have an awful lot of interesting failure modes. And if it's going to fail, the probability is that it'll do it in week1, or else in 5-10 years when wearout sets in. Hopefully you got it from someplace with decent customer service and warranty returns.

Hi,

How did you turn on the screen? By pressing the [Record] Button, [OK] Button, Open/Down Arrow or the power switch? What # was your brightness at within the settings? Was the screen 2x brighter then what it should be?

Thanks for the quick replies. Right now I think I'm going to have to send it back, hopefully getting it fixed or replaced. [sad]

I believe it was the power switch, but I'm not sure. The setting of the screen is at 9, but changing it around doesn't help the problem go away. It's far more than two times as bright.

Two pictures - I hope they're clear enough...

Btw - with refresh rate I meant to say LCD timing, you're right ofcourse :)

Ouch! That needs to be looked at. Send it. Sorry for your problem.

Later, if you have any other problems create a new thread and I'm sure I'll be able to help.

"I think it's dead Jim" .... I'd get an RMA number and sent it back (or reject it as 'not of merchantable quality', or whatever works under the local laws where you are).

Could be the timing, could be the LCD driver, or a resister, or whatever, but there's no point trying to second guess it, because there's about a 1% chance it is easy to fix, and a 100% chance you'll void your warranty if you try to open it up to see.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm still waiting on the response from bol.com, a dutch site where I ordered the F2. If I'm lucky, they'll replace it; if not, I'll have to wait about 6 weeks :(

Too bad really, I liked the player so far...

Good luck. The Dutch ought be reasonable .. the Distance Selling Regulations apply there too, not to mention the usual injunctions against selling broken goods.
