View Full Version : Deleting Files in the D2 Music Library
When trying to delete files in the Music Library, I receive the error message:
"Not support File delete on Music Browser."
Am I the only one that thinks it ridiculous that you can't easily delete a song after listening to it from the Music Library?
I know you can delete files in the Folders/D2 browser by filename, BUT... after listening to something from the "Music Library", you should easily be able to Delete it, and not have to re-hunt it down in the "Folder" browser (where I might not even know the filename).
Please help convince COWON this is a needed feature.
Thanks.
To be honest i dont really see the need to delete files using the player. The only time i want to delete something is when i am transfering new stuff on and have run out of space so i will just delete from the computer

I guess it's when the random shuffle plays something so awful (Vogon Poetry?) that you absolutely want to be sure it'll not happen again. But I'd agree it's not something I'd do out in the field very often (too many key presses while climbing through a hedgerow).
And it does beg the question 'why did you put the Vogon Poetry on there in the first place?'.

I use my player primarly for PodCasts and after I listen to or view them, I would easily like to delete them from the Music Library. It's not that much to ask, my previous Creative Zen Micro worked great in that respect.
So no, I don't want to have to remember what I've listened to the next time I'm at my computer and have to weed them out manually. And with a 40-50 hour battery life, that's usually only once a week and 20-30 PodCasts. I'd prefer to just fire up my PC, start Juice, get the latest PodCasts and copy them over to the D2. Digg?
Hello, first sorry for errors but English isn't my primary language ;-)
I have similar problem but with deleting video files. It seem D2 memorise if it was left in Music Library or in Folder browser after we go from MUSIC to VIDEO section - I can't delete video file if I go there after listening to some music selected by Music Library.
But I have no problem with deleting video when I leave MUSIC after playing song selected by Folder browsing.
This is wired and I hope it will be addressed in next firmware update.
As for deleting music: I'm really glad I spent time renaming all my music files to "Artist - Album - No - Track" otherwise I would have big problem with tracking down songs I want to delete :-(
Cowon, please add possibility to delete audio files when browsing by Music Library.

I can't delete songs even when I browes by folder. I get the same error message when search ID3. " Not Support File Delete on Music Browser".
Is this normal? Can anyone delete items on their D2?
This is from the AnythingButipod review:
Other features: Touch screen, SD/SDHC card slot, TV-out, FM radio, voice/line-in/FM recorder, BBE sound enhancements, user-configurable effect presets, text viewer, date/time/alarm, bookmarks, on-the-go playlist, deleting files on the player, dictionary (only with Korean firmware)
Its one of the reasons why I bought the D2. I hated that my iRivers weren't able to do this. Now it seems the D2 can't either.

Well I have no problem deleting files when in folder mode (but I'm running old firmware (2.21) - I don't know if that makes any difference). I never use ID3 tag mode so cannot comment on that.
Yeah, you've never been able to delete files on the D2 player UI. I've never seen it advertised by COWON as a capability, either. Sorry.

I'm beginning to dislike this player more and more.
Does anyone know if the Clix2 has this feature?

I can delete folders, I've never tried individual files though, might give it a go later
Fedito stop messin around, some people might think you are serious
Ive never had any problems deleting files on my D2, the only time it didn't allow me to, it worked after I restarted the player. I can confirm it working for me on 2.41 2.46 3.50b 2.50b and 2.50.

And . . . I stand corrected, apparently [blush].
I never go into Folder view much anymore, admittedly (and this function does not seem to be in their manual) - does this work on v2.50 from within the player?

OK.... But....Its not like I was asking about something sacred. I was just curious to know if anyone had experience with "THE OTHER" player. People shouldn't be so uptight and protective over an MP3 player. There are other things in life that are more important.
FYI... I read dapreview.net on a daily basis.
You come off kind of rude there, but hey I don't mind....I hate when people say FYI though, it's so bitchy...
lol, moving on. The clix 2 seems to be a great solid player and does what it does well, I have no experience with the player but have formulated an opinion on the device based on others trusted opinions.

I was rude? C'mon man....Why is everyone so uptight around here. Aren't we supposed to be helping each other out? I was just saying that I read dapreivew.net on a daily basis. I didn't mean to offend you when I said FYI. I work in a corporate environment and have seen it used quit often without anyone taking offense to it. I never thought of it as offensive but I guess to each his own. Now i know to never say it again on this forum or I might be banned. [surrend]
Anyway.... I think I'm going to reflash my D2 with firmware 3.50 again. Maybe something didn't go right the first time. Its possible because my dictionary doesn't work either.
haha, uptight? relax
had we been speaking face to face the tone would not have been uptight but informative in a friendly manner, god I dislike the english language at times.
Meh what ever.
It could be the firmware, I'm using 2.46 still and deleting is fine, but i think in the x.50 the delete function is still fully functional

I just tried with v2.50 and the UI disallows deleting music files in any view.
Are you talking about deleting files via USB, rather than through the D2's own UI?
- wader
iiiiiiiinteresting...... this 2.50 seems to be my least favourite firmware (from what i've read) 2.46 ftw hehehe

I guess it's context and possibly cultural references at play on an asynchronous communications board, once again. Looking at the geographic locales in people's profiles, that might help to explain things a little (i.e., Dominic's implication that the English language is a common point of communications problems). Plus, we all get used to each other over time and interaction, like in any community, I figure.
I've definitely seen "FYI" and other common phrases abused through snippy-ness or passive agressive behaviors, as in "For Your Information, Asshole . . ." :) .
That said, I use "FYI" all the time - like you, meant in a helpful manner.
Back to deleting files, I'm kinda confused now: I can't do so on v2.50 and even recall prior discussions here in which people tested on prior firmware. And, to be clear, I mean deleting music files from D2 flash memory using the D2's own UI, not via a computer when hooked up via USB. Maybe I'm just imagining such discussions . . .

So, have you tested deleting a music file on v2.46 through the D2 UI? Sorry to ask, Dominic, just want to be clear in what we can confirm.

I'm running 2.50b at the moment and deleting files in folder-view works without any problems. You can delete single files or whole folders.
2.5b still my favourite [biggrin]

OK.... I flashed my D2 back to version 2.50. Now I can delete files from the folder view but still can't delete them when browsing ID3. I can deal with that. [yes]

I hate to be a bother, but is that 2.50b, actually?
My testing on v2.50 has been unsuccessful for deleting files, thus far.

Not bothered at all. We're here to help each other.[smile]
Nope not 2.50b. Just plan old 2.50, right off the cowonamerica.com site.
OK, so . . . what's my problem? :D
I really tried to get this working last night. Really. Thanks for your clarification and I apologize for being misleading about this function, above.
Will test again after the D2 returns with my spouse, who has been using it at work lately.

Yar I have a problem now, one of my D2's using 2.46 can delete, the other can't (both on 2.46). The one that can't delete was flashed to 2.50b and 2.50 prior to being tested with 2.46.... this is very strange.
OK, I may have figured it out.
If your last "active" music file was in any view other than Folder (e.g., Album), then simply navigating to Folder view and trying to delete files will give you the Not support File delete on Music Browser message.
I tend to play my music files in Album view, so the most recent file I had been playing was via that view. When I went into Folder view from Album, nothing could be deleted.
The easy solution is to first play any file in Folder view, making it the "active view". At this point, you can now navigate through Folder view and delete files from within the D2 UI.
Whew.

Good work Wader!
I only use folder view when listening to music so I shouldn't have any problems deleting files from here on out.
I set my folders up by Genre=> Artist=> Album=> Song -- This works well for me.

Goodie Wader! So essentially you have to (In folder view) play a song in another folder than the songs you want to get rid off...?

IIRC, it appeared that you simply needed to play *any* song in Folder view, which would make it the "active" view at that time. Then, you could start deleting while in Folder view.
I haven't tested this on v2.51, though.

Hi there,
I've tried several times to delete anything in any view, but no luck. I could before I upgraded to V2.51. Wish I'd left the original firmware version on. Is it possible to go back a version?
Cheers,
Jayne.
I just deleted a test file in v2.53b - my guess is that it still works in v2.51.
Went into Folder view in the Music Library.
Drove down in the directories until I actually began playing an audio file there.
Paused the playback, went back to the Music Library, and while navigating around in the Folder tree, I was able to delete any desired files.

Hi. Can you tell me EXACTLY what you do to delete the file in the D2 UI? I am new to the D2 and I don't know how I can even get the delete option to come up.
Thanks!
I am on firmware 2.57.

To delete files on the Cowon D2:
1) Play a track and pause it.
2) Touch 'browser'.
3) Touch 'music list'.
3) Browse to the track or folder* you want to delete.
4) Touch 'settings'.
5) Touch 'delete'.
I didn't find it very intuitive that delete is a 'setting', but at least the feature is there!
* Some earlier posts complained of not being able to delete folders, but with firmware version 2.57 I was able to delete both full and empty folders.
