View Full Version : iaudio and itunes
Been trying all morning. Do I really have to burn mix to CD then convert and upload to iaudio? Is there some secret I'm not in on here? I'm a teacher, so I know in theory no question is stupid...indulge me if the answer is more obvious than it seems! Peace.
You could use pyMusique to purchase your songs from iTunes; if you do, there will not be DRM encoding on the files that you receive (meaning that you can burn the file to a CD with third-party utilites, or distribute the file on a filesharing network.)
Note that the usage of said program to purchase songs from the iTunes store violates Apple's policy. If you're still interested, though, do a google search on "pymusique". It's a great program, in my opinion.
Guess this is news....
Apple on Monday confirmed they have closed what's described as "a security hole" in the iTunes Music Store that allowed users to purchase songs without DRM attached. As a result of closing the hole, users of iTunes older than version 4.7 will need to upgrade in order to continue purchasing songs. This update also locks out users of PyMusique, a software application for Windows and Linux that served as an alternate interface to the iTunes Music Store.
So.....this begs the question....where does a fanatic U2 fan buy her music if their selected outlet is itunes and she has an iaudio?
I think your article is old. pyMusique is created by a skilled team of developers, and a bloated machine like Apple is not going to get in its way. This game isn't over yet. http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000977037225/
What I particularly like about pyMusique is the Linux support. Those damn idiots at Apple think everyone should use their overpriced, overmarketed OSX or that everyone uses Microshit's doggie doodoo. Bah.
Sorry, I should have included the date...March 22, 2005. Google it, its everywhere. Looks like another round for PyMusic, I'll keep my eye on them however. Something tells me that when a group of people like that put their minds to it, a workaround is not far off. Here's hoping. Oh, and I just spent a cherished naptime burning itunes to disc, converting, renaming and uploading to iaudio, talk about a workaround...
Wait should have checked your link...looks like they already have it figured out. Thanks for having your finger on the pulse for those of us who cannot due to the number of diaper changes in any given 24!
Not obvious to find out where to download the pup...
Could someone confirm this address or steer me? I'm thinking it might just be deluged with traffic...
http://fuware.nanocrew.net/pymusique/
That is the correct web address. If you know how to use subversion, this will provide you with the most recent version of pymusique:
svn checkout https://fuware.net/svn/pymusique/trunk pymusique-trunk
cd ./pymusique-trunk
./setup.py build
./setup.py install
(If you use the Linux operating system.)
The process is basically the same for Windows or Mac: run subversion for pymusique-trunk at https://fuware.net/svn/pymusique/trunk; change directory to where the subversion checkout occured; compile the code and run the installation executable.
Don't use iTunes, don't support that junk. It's not going to be as good quiality as a CD anyways, it's over priced and they load the files with junk. Buy the CD instead. Or steal the music, your a teacher so you must have a horrible salary (if you live in the USA) so society owes you some free stuff :) But don't give them money to adding copyright protection.
Yeah, I wouldn't go to iTunes basicly for every other reason posted. I know it's been brought up else where, but look into allofmp3.com. It hasn't been ruled illegal... yet... I got U2's new album there... and if you dl the AllofMP3 explorer, it'll work just like itunes (kinda).
If you're going to use all of MP3 you might as well just download it free instead of paying russian criminals...
If you want to buy your music legaly, get good quality files, and not be sold files crippled with copyright protection, just buy the CD. Or steal it, I have nothing against that, as long as your not paying to help perpetuate a system where the customer is punished for being a patron.
