Which the X5 pack the same features of the M3, plus the new ones, or some of this have been removed?
For example, UMS (USB Mass Storage).

Thank you :)

I don't suppose there is any chance the European model will have RDS (radio) support? AFAIK RDS is only supported in Europe.

Does anyone else think it's stupid that the the built in USB socket can only be used for "USB on the GO", instead of uploading/downloading files and at the very least charging the unit.

My SmartPhone (Orange SPV C500) uses the same USB socket to upload/download files as it does to charge it.

probably to discourage file sharing from music libraries other than your own. (hint you know.......borrow some off of Mikes x5, then some off of Ralph's M5 and some off of phil's x5L and so on. It would be sweet though Bradavon. If we could only convince them of that.)

It can still do that, with the USB OTG slot. Any type of data can be transferred as long as the other device shows up as a HDD.

What Brad talking about is the fact that you have to have two ports, one for USB OTG and one for connecting the X5 to your computer (on th the subpack). By having two ports and not one integrated they are probably cutting down on costs. What they have basically done is take the m3, slap on a screen and then USB OTG. If they were to integrate it they would have to change the circuitery and probably rebuild the whole thing from the ground up. This ofcourse adds to the cost of production.

That's what I meant Kirshna for computer use.

Good point though Zap. I'd not thought of that and if it works it would be useful.

So can I use USB OTG to transfer songs (or other files) from my computer to the X5??
Coz judging from the pics, there doesn't seem to be a USB2.0 plug in the X5, and only in the subpack.
So if i wanted to take some files from home (eg. word documents etc.) to Uni with the X5, would I be forced to take the subpack with me as well? Or can I just bring USB OTG cable and join it to another cable that can plug into the computer's USB port?

There's a USB 2 port on the left side of the X5

That's for USB OTG only though and won't work for transferring between a pc or will it?

I don't think so... maybe if someone writes a program that simulates the pc to be a mass storge device at its USB port. But I know not enough about the specification of a USB host port at the pc to tell if this is possible...

Does anyone know if it supports FLAC or SHN?

Thanks

I'm sure I read FLAC yes.

@ Matez: Many sources says USB OTG 2.0, so yes it will be blazing fast when transfering pictures.

I'm sure it's 2.0 for transferring using the sub-pack but that doesn't mean it will be for USB OTG. Just look at the iRiver H3xx.

The official site states that it has USB OTG 2.0

USB 2.0 is not the same as High-Speed USB. It is possible to be compliant with the 2.0 spec, but only support Full Speed (12MBps). This is why you should always look for the "High Speed" logo, not just USB 2.0.

Thanks for the info tsaying, never knew that.

Woah, I reckon it seems more right to have USBOTG on the subpack, and the USB2.0 port on the actual player, that way, it would be able to charge through USB (since AC adaptor is also only on subpack), even though it might be slower, AND transfer files between computer and X5.
Anyone know of any reasons to put it the way they have?

will the x5 read from external usb-powered hd?

Because as the name implies "ON THE GO" having to have the sub-pack with you would be annoying.

I agree btw and would prefer it your way but it's not. The iRiver H3xx has both on the player but as we know that's large.

He's saying that the H3XX may be larger than the X5 but it's still small relative to everything else.
