Is the LAME vbr-new issue resolved? Does it sort songs by ID3 tag? Does it support multiple playlists? Is it gonna support AAC files?

I haven't been able to get answers to any of these questions from anyone...

Did you look at the specs thread?

Well, one guy posts that the lame-vbr issue is resolved, but doesn't back it up. c-net claims it does AAC, but the official specs don't list it. No one has cleared that one up either, and lastly.... Only one person has asked about ID3 tags, and he did not get a response, so I wold say, that the features thread has not resolved anything.

I am surprised Cowon isn't handing out demo units yet for review.

The vbr-new issue with LAME is a big deal with me, because I don't want to spend HOURS re-ripping all my CDs again just for the sake of my Cowon, when my iPod plays all this stuff just fine.

Well, I think until it's actually released _anything_ you hear is just speculation with varying levels of credibility.

Hell, I bought the X5 partly because I heard ID3 browsing would be released for it...still waiting on that.

www.rockbox.org is over -> that-a-way. 8>.

Or do you mean you heard Cowon were going to release it??

Actually it's rather poor that X5 firmware development has been stopped for over a year or something although the units are still selling well.

CNet had said in its initial reviews that Cowon would be releasing ID3 browsing software, and I believe at the time the scuttlebutt around here concurred with that. I don't think Cowon ever really went on record disputing it either. While CNet certainly has its issues, I don't think they would have just made up information like that.
