View Full Version : Which Combinations of Cases/Shields/Stickers Work Together?

There are now several options for screen protectors, full-body shields, stickers, and plastic/silicone/leather cases for D2.
Some examples:
Metal Stickers: http://www.misticaudio.com/Cowon_D2_Metal_Stickers_p/cow-d2ms.htm
Crystal Case: http://www.misticaudio.com/Cowon_D2_Crystal_Case_p/cow-d2clr.htm
Silicone Case: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/For-Cowon-D2-2GB-4GB-Black-Silicone-Skin-Case-Armband_W0QQitemZ110121380012QQihZ001QQcategoryZ86 531QQcmdZViewItem
Leather Case: http://www.jetmall.net/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=322

Could users please list examples of combinations of the above that will work well together (and those that do not).

1. For example, I was thinking of getting metal stickers first, then adding a Shieldzone full-body shield. But maybe these 2 units will not work together, as the stickers change the characteristics of D2's case, which Shieldzone is cut for.

2. Perhaps if I want to get the stickers, I should get a screen protector, and a clear plastic case to go over the unit after stickers and screen protector? Is that a good method?

3. How about the combo of metal stickers and screen-only protector? Then later, I'll get a hard clear case and a silicone case (for gym, armband use, etc); and I can of course keep the stickers and screen protector on the unit at all times, and switch off between the clear plastic case and the silicone case depending on my activity?

4. Does anyone know if the D2 with crystal case will fit into the leather D2 case sold on jetmall? http://www.jetmall.net/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=322

I lean toward option 3 above. Does anyone know if that will work well?

Also, it would be helpful to our forum community if folks could please list any other case combo options that you've found to work particularly well, and/or tell us options that you do NOT recommend.

Thank you!

This approach works.....in fact I've seen pictures in this forum (somewhere) of a D2 clad in metal stickers within a crystal case.

HMMMM...this seems a little too much?

NO...it won't. I have a crystal case and the Cowon D2 case sold at JetMall. When the D2 is in the crystal case, it will not fit in the leather case.

I lean toward option 3 above. Does anyone know if that will work well?

Personally, I'm pretty happy with the leather D2 case and metal stickers. I still have the plastic screen cover on my D2 that shipped with the unit and it's working fine.
Thank you!

options...

1. each items separately and individually.
2. Shieldzone and crystal case
3. metal stickers and crystal case and screen protector
4. shieldzone/metal stickers and leather case.

other combinations would be hard or ugly....especially shieldzone and metal stickers....ugliness....

I think the best option will be screen protector (NOT the one that is already on the device out of the box) with crystal case. You can customise the crystal case with external skins very easily. I think it has the potential to look nicer than the metal stickers (which is more expensive too..) There';s a thread about external skins down below this forum.

My D2 has the metal stickers with the Shieldzone full body shield over it. Five stars! The metal stickers are apparently scratch-resistant by themselves. Add the SZ body shield and the D2 has enough protection, and the player is still slim and trim [biggrin]

For what it's worth, I use it about 2 hours a day in the gym, 7 days a week. I wipe the player on my shirt sleeve to clear off fingerprints. During my workout I'm tapping the screen with my sweaty fingers. While at work I sometimes don an apron and I drop the player into one of the front pockets while I do some maintenance work.

The player looks brand new after all my abuse!

#3 - You may find this option not so easy. I found that the full body shield molecularly bonded (OK, not really, but it stuck really tightly) to the plastic case, making getting the plastic case open a real bitch. The plastic case is no wonder of construction - it's made out of really cheap plastic and secures with little pegs that would just love to snap off. So, I don't think you're going to want to pop the D2 in and out of it several times per day.

The full body shield also sticks a little to the Cowon leather case, but who cares - it just means you have to wiggle it a bit more to get it out.

Personally, I'm happy with the Jetmall leather case/full body shield combo. Maybe not as sexy as metal stickers and external skins and what not, but it works well for all the functions I need.

Oh and BTW, damn Keal - 2 hours a day/7 days a week. The boy is fit! I'm lucky if I get in 2 hrs a week!

Quick related question... are the metal stickers easily removable?

In other words, are they or are they not glued in place via an adhesive that's bound to leave ugly residue when the stickers are removed?

have no idea if its removable. im pretty sure almost everyone here wouldnt attempt to take it off for a while (especially since we paid a lot for it).

but its very sticky. doesnt budge once its on. my cowon label is crooked. i tried taking it off gently but wouldnt budge. and well didnt want to damage it so just left it.

dont know if it'll leave residue. im sure it might but a little alcohol will easily remove it.
