Hey Guys,
I'm having problems with the memory on my D2, I have the 4gb model, I have been putting my music on it with Jetshell and the first 2.5GB has been filling up fine, when I get to about the last 1.5GB of space, it doesn't store any more music, the music appears to be transferring across in Jetshell, but when I unplug the player and turn it on it's not there.
I tried formatting the device memory and starting again but it just won't let me fill up anywhere near the 4GB, in the information option on the D2 and in Jetshell it tells me there is 1.5GB remaining.
Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem or suggestions would be welcome.
Cheers

try transferring the files manually (drag and drop) to see if the files are actually there. You might also want to check manually that the files you transferred from jetaudio are there.

Hey,
I tried manually transferring the files, didn't seem to make a difference, also tried using WMP instead of Jetshell, didn't work either. The files and all MP3's are appearing in my root folders when I connect my D2 to the PC, and they appear to be taking up memory space on the device, but they are just not on the player when I want to listen to them.
Maybe I could just have a faulty player, which would be the second faulty D2 I've now had, (screen didn't work on the first one).
Still, any help would be appreciated, I love the player but almost feel like giving up with it because of all the problems I'm having.

Place them in the "Music" folder instead.

That's what I have been doing but no go, D2 is acting really strange now, erratic behaviour, album titles are changing as I am scrolling down the screen, all songs are getting moved to areas that I haven't put them, might have to send the bugger back.

OK, seem to have sorted out the strange behaviour, but D2 still only fills up 2.5 GB, not the remaining 1GB or so, anyone have any idea's.
Hmm... can you drag-and-drop other files onto the D2? Like software, or photos, text files, etc?
Also, if you go into 'My Computer' in Windows and right-click on the D2's icon and select 'Properties' in the pop-up menu next to the mouse, it'll show a pie chart of the capacity of your D2 player. Does it show that you have 4gb available, and that only 2.5gb are in use?

Hey there,
OK, I looked in the properties of the player in the "my computer" and it tells me the same as in Jetshell, that I do have pleanty of memory left on the D2.
So I tried putting video's and pics onto the device (good idea I hadn't tried that yet) but unfortunately the same thing is happening, the files are transferring over to the D2 and taking up space, and folders for the items are actually being put on the D2, but they are just not there, really strange[confused]
Could I just have a faulty memory on the D2, is that possible? I have never experienced anything like it before.
Cheers,

You are not by any chance putting 'invisible' files on your D2? If you transfer a file that in Windows is marked as 'hidden' or something like that, it won't show up on your D2, even though it is actually on the player.

Good thinking but no, files definately aren't hidden.
I tried putting on albums that had worked on the player before, and they didn't seem to transfer over properly either, it is literally only when I get to the last 1.5GB of the players memory that the problem happens, reguardless of the file.

Hmmm, could it be that the flash drive is formatted FAT 16 instead of FAT 32? Right Click and select "Format"... this will show you the current File System and File Allocation Size. Don't worry... in order to actually format the drive you would have to click Start and OK to a warning message about loosing your data.

No, just had a look and it is formatted at FAT 32, never mind, I'll keep trying, thanks anyway.
I don't know if you've tried upgrading to the latest firmware, but if you haven't, you could try that. I'm thinking that your current firmware may be messed up, so flashing it with a fresh firmware might solve the problem.
If that doesn't work, I'd say you have a faulty D2, and you should contact Cowon and have it repaired/replaced ASAP so you can get back to having fun with it [smile]

The OP presumably IS aware that there is a limit on number of folders (500?) and files (5k? 3k internal, 3k external? Opinons differ) regardless of the total size??
Normally, and I assume D2 is the same, this is for media files which the D2 is expecte to see/catalogue - you can have as many (invisible to the D2) strange .zip, .xls, etc files as you like.

OK, problem solved, I updated to the firmware 3.45b, and now the players memory is working correctly, saved me loads of hassle of returning the D2 to suppliers, now I can continue to have fun with it,
Cheers Keal for that advice, and everyone who helped out.
Gotta love this forum.
Yay! Always great to have a happy ending for a D2 and its owner [biggrin]
