Well, we know it actually still exists! WinCE looks ugly though. At least Cowon made their own program for media playing.
i hate the WIN CE GUI. really destroyed all my hopes to buy the Q5...unless there are ways to customize the GUI of course!
or you could just use the cowon GUI and dont touch winCe, (keep it in the background) i assume the cowon GUI appears at start up of the device.
What's with the QWERTY Keyboard GUI, I thought it was going ot have thumg operated keyboard in the corners?
guys any news about realsing date or month

think you might be getting mixed up with Microsofts Ultra Mobile PC Origami. the keyboard is called DialKeys.
I swear I saw a Q5 video with the same thing though :-/

The Samsung q1 is maybe what you saw per below pic [wink]
Thanks to the op for pics
What's the external aerial for? Surely that's not a permanent feature?
How will you use the Q5, will it use a stylus or literally touch screen (fingers)
nice looking device...
Now did it have Bluetooth? Then you could hook it to a BT GPS and get WinCe mapping software.. a lot of the GPS devices out there are WinCE based.. ie. Mio's DigiWalker.
more pics and specs would be good.. roll on!!

The top couple of pics look quite good, the Q5 looks like the D2's big daddy :)
After considering an A3 for a while and seeing this i might flip and get a Q5 if they come to Australia :)
And if the price is good of course :)

The external antenna retracts into the device. You can see it in the video of Cowon at CES 2007.

What are the main differences between windows ce and windows mobile 5? I have WM5 on my pocket pc and love it, and it'd be great to have on something like the Q5 with more processing and storage. I would still assume there is an abundance of software for windows ce as well as for WM5. this thing will essentially be a mini laptop and software, hacking, and expanding the system could be endless.

That looks really great, it does look big, if there's a version with capacity > 40GB and it is under £400 I might get one.
I would have preferred Linux to run on it, but I'm sure someone will come along and add dual-booting or something. Price is going to be the most crucial point on the Q5, as similar players are being released.

CE is more generic. The windows mobile version is reasonably different, and has a different interface to the device. I dont think the assembiles (programs) are 100% compatible, they have to be recompiled for WinCe where as WM5 apps may work on Smartphone and PPC devices.

apart from cowons own great wide range of file support;
There is a version of vlc for WinCE, (nightly build) so surely that will support even more codecs. If thats the case, Q5 may be able to support a hell of a lot more codecs then stated.

Has anyone had any experience with VLC on WinCE?

There does look to be some decent software for WinCE, VLC as mentioned, Minimo (Firefox web browser) and others. The binaries are available and I'm sure if needs be, someone with a Q5 will compile them.

Too long mate. If you ever just happen to be in Korea/Asia on a holiday, stock up on machines like these while you're there! That's how I came across the D2 (Christmas present to myself [wink])

If it is anything like windows 98 or my WM phone then that should be a yes. But, then again the fact that it can play pretty much any codecs is a nice point.
