Just got it out of box a few hours ago. Was psyched to try it out, but sadly this problem is preventing me from doing anything.
When I plug it into my computer (I've tried 3 usb ports, all with the same result), I get this:

It finds it, right? This is what comes up in my device manager:

Notice anything wrong with that other than the fact it's not configured correctly? I can't install a driver for it because XP is suppose to recognize it automatically (from what the manual says). When that stupid "New Hardware Wizard" thing pops up, I go through it and this window pops up at the end:

Has anyone seen anything like this? It doesn't even recognize it as a USB device. Something is severely messed up here...

Did you click continue anyways? I wonder what that would end up doing...it's actually just a USB flash drive, so it should recognize it as much...I'm assuming all other USB peripherals and the like you have work fine? Have you tried updating your mobo USB drivers to the latest release?

Nothing happens after I click "Continue anyway".
Everything that I use in my USP ports work fine except this one. I'm not sure if updating would do much because even recently new stuff works with my usb ports.
i think it's your computer :/
have you tried all your usb ports?

If that's the case I would e-mail cowon, it might be faulty software/hardware.

install the cowon drivers that came with it and then plug it in and see if it works. it can possibly be the problem. your lucky, mines coming out as unrecognized at all
I once had a similar problem. It turned out that the cable was defective. As simple as that. Try with another cable.
If u still have a problem, then the player u have is probably defective.

The D2 should be reconized as a USB Mass Storage device not an IDE device.
The driver should be:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\USBSTOR.SYS

Where are the drivers that came with it? I can't find them on the CD (if you're talking about the ones on the Win98 folder thats on there, that doesn't work either). Not sure if it being recognized as an IDE device is techinically a good thing...

I looked in my drivers folder and found that file in there. My computer has worked for other devices that use USB Mass Storage (ie: my old cellphone worked for one).

I had an idea, I tried to plug in my old X5 and see if that could be read as a USB Mass Storage device, guess what? It worked. Everything is read on my computer except my D2 (as a stupid IDE device). I thought my USB headset would have caused a problem for that as well, I guess I was wrong. I'm running out of ideas here...
(still awaiting a response from cowon as well)
Are you using a laptop as some usb ports dont give enough power to run somethings i had this problem with an external harddrive with my laptop it would just not work and that was the problem. Try on another computer if you can

No, I'm using desktop. I've tried all 4 usb ports.
*edit
Since it works on my brother's computer, I guess I'm just going to use that whenever I need to put stuff on my D2.
Thanks everyone for trying to help me out, I appreciate it.
Somebody seems to have had a similar problem in another thread. I gave a reply that might work (it did for me when I had a similar problem with my D2).
The reply's here (http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=14135).
(Mods, please don't ping me for cross-posting here, am only trying to help)
Best of Luck, hope it helps.
