Recently I bought a Iaudio G3 2Gb.
However it seems that I cannot use the complete 2GB.
Versions of software used are JetShell 3.21 Pro
Firmware is 1.20e
When I load apr. 1.5Gb of Data (WMA files, apr. 60 albums in 120 folders, only 60 folders at toplevel) using JetShell to the I audio I can see within JetShell that there is apr. .5 Gb free, so that's OK. I can also browse using Jetshell through all the albums. However when using the Iaudio I can only see apr. the first 35 folders on toplevel. The 36 and later folders are not readable, when I try to expand these I get message NO FILE. However when I move this folder upwards into another folder I can see the WMA files but then folder number 35 becomes unreadable.
Now I bought this Iaudio G3 2Gb player because it has 2Gb. Currently I can only use apr. 796 of 1988Mb. (570 files in 71 folders of which 35 folders at toplevel).
additional information:
I already installed the firmware again, problem remains.
Have read in different forum that same problem exists with OGG files.
Problem should not exist with 2Gb MP3 files.
Will start testing this tomorrow (Friday) and report results in this thread.

You may want to try email support, and see what they say.
The problem is not related to the file format, I had the problem with mp3 files...
In fact, there is a file number limitation (folders are included in it) so if you have low bitrate files or plenty of small files, you will reach this limit. the limit is only related to the files under the MUSIC folder, you can still add files in the root.
I suppose that this limitation is related to the song order or something like that.

It is possible to load 370 MP3 files and fill up the entire 2Gb and play all files.
However when you load 409 files WMA (small files, apr. 1.1 Gb) this is the maximum. You can load more to the player but you get NO FILES in the display when you navigate to the lower folders.
Can you confirm that this can be resolved. If it can be resolved I would like to know how long I need to stick with my player which cannot be used completely.
I bought this 2Gb player to hold apr. 850 WMA files (apr. 80 albums).
As stated it doesn't look like it's the memory or the system itself but it may have something todo with an inode table which is not big enough to hold all entries.
The player is to expensive to use only half of the memory.
Today spotted in the forum www.cowonamerica.com:
Hi, I bought a G3 2GB and found a strange limitation.
If the total number of uploaded music files is more than 423 files,
only 423 files can be browsed. Files residing in subdirectories
with high alphabetical order won't be shown then or the player
displays "NO FILE" for the whole subdirectory.
The original firmware was 1.20e and the problem started also
with this firmware.
Any ideas/tips/tricks ?
The G3 2GB is very expensive compared to harddisk players and
it is unacceptable that it could only be filled with eg. 1.0gb ogg files
so that there is still useless expensive free memory lying around here.
Thanks

So same problem, different filenumber, but only a small difference.
Problem also confirmed on different model.

Have you tried installing the latest firmware?

Oh dear. Hopefully this is something to be fixed with a firmware update. I just ordered my 2GB G3 and the whole point was to get approx. 800 songs loaded into the DAP.

Same problem already confirmed with the 1.25b firmware.
So still waiting for a solution.
Currently I jused mediajoin to combine files into blocks of 3 (or 4) and I have now loaded apr. 300 files (1.6Gb, 61 CD's) and can see all of it.
Not completely happy of course as I want to have possibility to play individual songs instead of blocks of 4.
Still hoping it can be solved.

Bad News for 2Gb Iaudio G3 players:
http://www.cowonamerica.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4583
Dear Valued Customer,
We regret to inform you that we have found a defect in our 2bg players. Through thorough tests we have discovered that it cannot hold more than 480 (Files+folder). There seems to be a hardware limitation that cannot be fixed through software upgrades at the moment. We have informed all of our retailers that return and refund for these products over the due date of the return policy have been waived. If you would like to schedule a return and refund of your unit please contact your place of purchase. Again we apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you.
Best Regards,
Cowon America Inc.

same problem with 1Gb version although it is less of a problem practically.
can only see 478 files
Only to point two (http://www.iaudiophile.net/forums/viewtopic.php?id=1724) other threads (http://www.iaudiophile.net/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=16072) in this forum about this same annoying bug (although Cowon's Support doesn't seem to think of it as a bug).
I think I'll get the iPod Mini. :P
This is a nightmare.
I'm receiving my G3 2Gig tomorrow.
I've been a Cowon fan but now this....
I've been waiting for so long, it is very disapointing.
I think I'll go for the 1Gig version or the Nomad Micro instead.
Too bad Cowon is not facing the problem with courage and posting it to their web sites.
I think It would cause less disapointments and unnecesary problems with returns.
In the positive side I think is fair they are accepting returns.
Does anyone knows what are the chances of this to be fixed ?
Maybe using Fat32 to overcome the file limit?
Chances are this is the SigmaTel chip to blame.
If so the the Apple Shuffle should have that limit too.
If not then we have some hope....
