I can't believe the D2's built-in memory is half the speed of the iRiver H10 which wasn't exactly stellar when it came out. But j.River is showing transfer rate of exactly the same audio tracks to the H10 as 3.1MB/sec, and the D2 as 1.6MB/sec.
In sustained transfer the D2 is fairly respectable - but it seems to suffer inordinately when transferring small files. Anyone done detailed testing on D2 throughout with any comments? Thanks.
Right click on D2 drive in my computer, go to hardware - double click on D2 device - click policies and select "optimize for performance".
That'll speed up the transfer a bit.

My tranfer rate is about 5MB/s [thumbsup]
My tranfer rate is about 5MB/s [thumbsup]
Mine is 15min for 4gb about 4.7mb/sec

That enables write caching which will bugger up removal and other stuff.
It will only cause problems if you disconnect the device while transferring
files. If you use the "Safe Disconnect" tray icon, it's fine.
Furthermore, if you do not use the "Optimize for Performance" option, you
don't have to use the tray icon to disconnect the device at all.

You do if you're running any files from it or using anything that uses write caching. There's a reason the feature was taken off from default from Windows 2000->XP, because it has the possibility of losing data or corrupting the device's memory.
I tested the speed in several ways. I found that using MSC the transfer is about 4,4 mb per second (using the filesystem). When using MTP it is 2,5 mb per second. Quite a difference!
So, speed up by using MSC!
