No jerky audio fix yet whats a good alternative

Ive had my cowon a2 for going on 10 months and have loved ever single moment of owning it. If they could fix the problem id be happy!

Well over the past 2 months ive been getting music and it skips and just sounds terrible when I play the files, come to find out through searching in troubles board that its because of vbr 192 with lame or some stupid excuse. Anyway Its getting sick and I don't want to download a program for that specific purpose on my PC and FURTHER lower the quality of the music I listen to. So whats a good pmp/pvp to get that doesnt have these problems?

It's not because of 'vbr 192 with lame' in itself, it's because of the new FAST algorithm that the LAME folks have implemented.
This happened AFTER the A2 was released. However, it certainly is a pity that Cowon has STILL NOT fixed that bug.
Makes me wonder if the upcoming A3 and Q5 have the same limitation - a potential PR disaster!

In the meantime, what can you do?
1. re-rip your CDs making sure to select the 'standard' LAME preset.
The --new switch does not change the music quality at all, it just makes the encoding process faster.

EDIT: I learned from the hydrogenaudio forum that this is not true. -new does more than just speed up the encoding!

2. If you don't have the CD (bad boy! [rolleyes]), transcode the files. But be aware that there will always be a loss in quality.

As for what other PMPs can cope with this problem - I'm afraid I don't know...
I'm still hopeful that Cowon will EVENTUALLY fix this bug.

this is becoming more and more annoying!!! why do you think Cowon is overlooking this?

I hope they are not, I used easy CD extractor last night and it defaulted in normal mode, very fast encoding was still two selections below this and it still skipped like hell. I must try some more tonight, maybe highest quality. That will probably skip to!
