Hello,

I just got a Kingston 8GB SDHC card for my 4GB D2. I formatted it to FAT32, and put some stuff on there, but when I browse out to where it should say D2 and D2 EXT, there is D2 and D2. When I select the second one I see my folders on the card, but they are all named D2. Inside them are my music, but the files have no title, only the M icon in the left side, and when I play them it says Unknown in all fields. It CAN play them though.

When the player is turned off and then on later, there is nothing in the second D2 folder. I have to take the card out and insert it again for the D2 to see my files on the SDHC card.

I'm wondering whether anyone else here has seen this problem, and maybe has a solution or suggestions. It is quite strange behaviour, but I feel like I'm almost there. I almost have a 12GB solid state player.

By the way, I'm on linux (kubuntu).

sorry for the double post, I could not find a way to edit the other one.
edit: turns out I had been logged out, doh!

I should mention that I'm using the 2.41 firmware.

i think someone had once issue with linux, had to do with the kernel or something with the formatting as they would get corrupt files, but when they switched to windows and formatted it it worked fine, i dont know if this is same issue, try formatting it under a windows machine?

First of all: Great choice in OS & distro! Kubuntu Rocks![thumbsup]

I think the cause of your trouble is the fact that you formatted the SD card. (no need to, they come formatted out of the box)
I assume you formatted the card as vfat? If not: format it as vfat... if so: Jump on a windows box and reformat the card there.

Having the folder names all come up as D2 is strange though. You might want to md5sum the files to make sure there's no corruption.

Report back on how it goes [smile]

Hey guys,

First, thank you for your quick replies. I was planning to try and format the card on a windows box over the weekend, and maybe try and find out how I was supposed to do it on linux, but I didn't get that far.

The night between thursday and friday I put the usb cable in, just to charge the battery for listening at work friday. It had automounted on my linux box, so I 'safely removed' the card and d2 before going off to work, and from then on I have seen no sign of the problem I described above! Now it reads the files fine off the SDHC card, so I dare not experiment too much now. I don't understand how/why it went from mostly unusable to fixed, but I'm just glad it did. I've put a bunch more stuff on the card and kind of consider my problem a freak occurrence.

Maybe I'll dig more into it when I get my hands on a 16GB SDHC card whenever they come out and are affordable. Again, thanks for your input. This seems like a great forum, I'm planning to visit more often.

I'm on windows with firmware 3.41b and I get some really wierd behaviour with my 8Gb SDHC card. Sporadically, if the card is plugged in, my D2 won't recognise ANY files, player or card, music or otherwise. if I take the card out, power the player off and on, it recognises all my files on the player. No matter what combination of on/off card in/out i try, it won't recognise my files!

Your using the beta firmware, use the final release of 3.41 if you want the dictionary or 2.41 without dictionary and it will fix your problems

Thanks, didn't realise there was a stable release out. I'm using 3.45b now and it works fine anyway. Can't wait for more utilities!
