Im deciding between the Mistic Audio Plastic Case and the Ebay Silicon Case for the D2...

is the Silicon case even worth the money? I know it would help prevent scratches but I'm guessing it dosn't help as much with physical damage as the Plastic Case does.

thanks!

I thought the reverse.

Plastic = Hard (not shock absorbent - If you drop it on a hard floor the hard plastic case would transfer the full impact to the D2)
Silicon = Soft/Rubberized (The elasticity of the silicone "might" help absorb some of the impact) Is like wrapping a big rubber band around the D2.

The silicon case does not protect the screen, but for that I'd use a cut-to-size screen protector from my PDA.

As I was leaving for work my eBay silicone case had just arrived. It came in an envelope that fitted inside the small mail box of my building. It came fast... it only took two days. I won't be going to the gym until Thursday, so I'll have to wait for a real test until then.

First let me say that the D2 paired with UE super.fi 5 Pro IEMs is a winning combo. I never had a better music-listening experience while exercising. I also have to mention that the silicone case matches the clear cable of the black super.fi Pro perfectly.

The silicone case fits like a glove. The cutouts for the touch screen, the top switches, the side headphone, the little side door for the I/O ports , the bottom SD slot and the slid that hold the stylus all match perfectly. The thickness of the silicone does not add much bulk to the player. This alone justifies the purchase price.

On the other hand, the black elastic armband leaves a lot to be desired. After just three days of use I had to re-stitch the black plastic "O" ring that is attached to one end of the strap. This happened because the elastic strap is made of a very soft elastic material and it tends to fold in a bunch (collapsed) at both of the "narrow" ends of the "O" ring. The only way to avoid this is to hold "O" in the correct position and tighten the armband beyond the point of comfort. Even after tightening it can happen again as you move the armband up or down. This is my first armband, so I'm not very familiar with them and I don't know if this is a common issue.

I'm going to shop around for a better arm strap to use with this case. I think I've seen them being sold individually without a case. I guess I'll have to visit the iPod accessories section of my electronic store (The HORROR!). I saw someone in the gym with a grey iPod armband that looked very sturdy and just a bit wider. I think it would fit this case. I don't think this iPod armband used Velcro as it appeared to be adjusted using a tension buckle. I'm also planning to reinforce the back of the case by adding a square piece of material inside to protect the back of the D2 from scratches. I will also make slits on this material to match the slits on the back of the case to strengthen the narrow piece of silicone between the slits that hold the armband.

well, it just depends on what you really need it for...

I chose the silicone case because I wanted to use it in the gym with the armband option. I just recieved mine today and it looks like it would suit it purpose. (also, it cuts aren't really "perfect"...). And I also don't plan on using the case all the time.

And besides, the silicone case is even cheaper now! When I purchased it last week, it was over $10 with the shipping fee. I just checked back today after I recieved mine, and now its just about $10 with the shipping fee. It is now also available in Black...

I'd almost ask this question more about the plastic case than the silicon one. I realize it's a specialized design, but $17 bucks for a couple pieces of cheap plastic... It seems like it will break pretty quick, too, taking it on and off, something you don't have to worry about with the silicon case. My favorite case at the moment is the Jetmall leather - protects the screen, hangs nicely from a belt loop, looks attractive and seems to be pretty durable. Well worth 25 bucks to me.

Brand new member. Just got my D2 last week and I love it. I bought the ebay silicone case as well last week and they are now cheaper than when I got it. The case is custom made for the player and it does it's job. It won't protect it from a large fall, but it will protect it in a short fall and inside your pocket from getting scratched up as long as you have a screen protector as well. I highly recommend it.
