16.95 for the crystal case from misticaudio. free for the external skin and wallpaper provided you know how to make them. there is a thread on it somewhere in here.

Skins are a nice idea, but I'm afraid that I will crack the crystal case when I try to separate it.

Here is my current skin.
http://www.4shared.com/file/14267930/12bca2a6/AlucardD2Skin.html

thanks to mcramen's skin template and action file from this thread http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=14048 it's quite easy to turn any picture into a skin(if you have photoshop).

I'd have an exacto knife and a straight edge handy as this will make cutting your skin out MUCH easier[biggrin]

The thumbnail is the inside(screen) of the skin.

atm i use a back external skin, ive never been keen on the front skins. as much as i like to use em, i find it hard to atually make them, not editing the image as such (i can do that), but trying to draw and possition the folding lines for the edges. emm, what do you guys do?

edit: ok looking at the template i see whats going on. But placing an image over will hide the lines. Just a question, the lines > are they a seperate layer to the white background? if so then its easy peasy.

calcheese
04-19-2007, 11:25
hey, the lines are just guide lines and so whatever you put on the canvas, the guides lines will remain.

here's a different rain drop one i found...

Any idea why templateS print out so large? Nearly twice the size of the D2! I've printed them out before and always the same result. What am I doing wrong?

addz
04-19-2007, 17:07
for me, using the template above, it prints out just a margin too big for my case, i would say less then half a centimeter on two sizes.

ive tried using IrfanView which prints the exact size of the image, still no gd. but better then the crappy way windows try to print using its windows print wizord though.

have you tried the premade covers? I found a site with hundreds of different external skins that have already been made...but it looks like they've been done with the same sort of template. It'd be worth chekcing to see if the raindrop ones i posted above fit any better. The website is in korean and registration is quite complicated but i can give you some that i've already downloaded. Just tell me what kind of stuff you're into and i'll try find some for you. But it would have been nicer to be able to make your own skins.... as for the template, it might be worth asking mcramen to re-do them (i think he made it...)

If you do, could you please post it?

I had the same problem and by trial and error I've found that after you select print...under the page setup tab(may be different for you depending on OS and printer software) change the "normal size printing" option to "scaled printing" and use 64% as your value. I've found this prints the proper size......I can't answer your question of why the skins output so big. This is just the way I've dealt with the issue.

Hope this helps some[smile]

Sometimes I just don't see the obvious[wacko]

Disregard what I said DAPmagic. Just print from within photoshop and it works just as Keng says.

Thanks for pointing that out keng.[thumbsup]

Hi all, new buyer of the D2 here. Waiting for it to arrive from Newegg, and getting stuff ready to play with for when it arrives.

Keng, not 100% sure as I'm new here, but when you are in the "Reply to Topic" window, below where you type the reply is a section called "Additional Options. There is a way to attach files there. If you could, could you please upload your dragon one? Thanks!

Oh, and if anybody has any clue as to the source image for the cartoon calcheese linked to, this one (http://board.cowon.com/zeroboard/data_2007/C50/t.JPG), I'd appreciate knowing. I'd like to make my own. [biggrin]

And since I don't have PS, I won't "disregard" your input, TimeConsumer! [biggrin]

Thanks, you guys rock! [thumbsup]

I can't wait for my D2 to arrive. Newegg has always been fast for me, so I hope to really play around with it this weekend. One more question guys. With the Crystal case (also on order) how easy is it to switch these skins? Just print them out, cut them to size and place them between the case and the D2? Basically, not having the case in front of me to look at right now, I'm a little confused as to DAPmagic's comment of "Skins are a nice idea, but I'm afraid that I will crack the crystal case when I try to separate it." What do you mean by separating it, and why might that crack it?

Yup, pretty much that easy....I had a little difficulty the 1st time I tried as the case didn't seem to want to "snap" shut(because of the extra bulk the paper causes) but if you look closely at the case you'll notice "tiny notches" near the seam....applying the pressure at or around these areas is what I found to do the trick.

Basically, not having the case in front of me to look at right now, I'm a little confused as to DAPmagic's comment of "Skins are a nice idea, but I'm afraid that I will crack the crystal case when I try to separate it." What do you mean by separating it, and why might that crack it?

The case is 2 pieces(a front and back) that snap together to form a "shell"..so you have to pull them apart to open it. It takes quite a bit of force to separate the 2 pieces once they are together and its not the sturdiest plastic I've seen[no] so I can understand DAPmagic's apprehension. I was also afraid the 1st few times I changed skins but after awhile the fear goes away and you get comfortable[wink] .

I'm currently using this skin. Unfortunately, the front wasn't a proper fit, so I made another print of the back and traced the window of the sheild on it. Took a little more effort but it's now the exact size. [biggrin]

do you think photo paper is too thick?
im thinking of getting these into a SD card and printing them
out from one of those digital print kiosks

the laser printer i have access to doesnt print high quality vibrant colors that I want

addz

^ might b able to squeeze it in. for sure the paper will be more durable. personally for something like this paper + colour ink does the job perfectly. you also my find it hard to bend the photo paper for the back cover well enough for the D2 to fit on top.

I use gimp as an alternate to PS, and i can open the "untitled-1.psd" and can't imagine what's missing, resp. what's in the "skin.atn".. could somebody explain / post a picture of it?
Many thanks!

you open up a picture you want and basically run the action file to make the external skin.

I've had problems though, I can't print it at the right size. I did print it without checking the "fit to paper" option, but it's still a few mm bigger. I'm using photoshop by the way. Anyone care to help?
