Im wondering, what kind of restrictions the mpeg4 video playpack on the x5 have?

will it only support 15 fps or just any thing like the psp?

also what is the fastest converter program for these types of files?

15 fps is the max.

Convert using:

PocketDivXEncoder
FairUseWizard

Both are excellent.

May have to wait to see what software comes with the X5 as the video format was rumoured to be a proprietary format.

I read from one of the threads here it is Xvid.

PocketDivXEncoder is excellent, if we're lucky the person who writes it will add an X5 template when it's released (they did for the iRiver H3xx). Not that you need it really as the software is easy to use.

The X5 will not use a proprietary format, it has been repeatedly said that it will use MPEG-4, Cowon is not Sony, they don't have the resources (or any reason whatsoever) to make their own movie format. There is probably a max resolution too.

Yes, video has to be re-encoded in Xvid format, 15 fps, 160x128, Since there isn't a video co-processor built in, the CPU has not enough power to do any video processing.

If you need more video playback features, you have to wait for A2

Actually it will and it is created through Jet Audio. Jet Audio will take MPEG4 files but they are then converted / transcoded into a fomat that will play back on the X5.

I don't think JJ is questioning the XVid format!!

Cowon/iAudio have not yet released any list of file forrmat compatibility for the X5 and the only available from CeBIT was that the unit will only play video generated/converted/created by the included JetAudio bundle... They say it is an MPEG4 format which I think we are all agreed on...

This maybe XVID, Divx, MPEG-4 or whatever you want to speculate, why don't we just wait and see or ask Cowon themselves. Austin and eXity seem to have good contacts why not fish for some more info.

Perhaps Suntec could shed some light on it! Afterall, if they are going to take your money for a pre-order they had better know what the products can do!!!

Has anyone pre-ordered? If so why don't you ask? You have a right to know what you are buying!

btw, Bradavon, I tried PocketDivXencoder yesterday, very capable and easy to use software... thanx!

I definitely read on some Cowon/Jet Audio press release/link it was Xvid.

No worries it's great isn't it. You want the "experimental" version as it's still safe as houses and better.
