I'm a bit confused about the "entire front is covered by one piece" thing. How can it cover both the screen and the white/black borders of the player since the screen is sort of recessed back while the borders bump out?

I don't think anybody here has this thing yet. I know somebody ordered it, so there will be an answer soon. My guess is that, since it's a 'body' shield, there is no screen protection included, just the body of the D2.

I ordered it, and it should be arriving this week. I think they made a mistake in their description - My guess is that there's 2 pieces for the front, 1 for the back, and 4 for the sides. It was $19.95 when I ordered it, then it went up to $24.95 a couple days later. Maybe they realized it [blink]

I'll be sure to give a report as soon as it arrives [laugh]

Ah... that does make more sense. So then now I'll also have to purchase a separate screen protector..

Thanks! I would definitely like to know what it is like. And its too bad the price went up [thumbdwn]

I am glad they put it up as a regular product. Thanks to those who bought this as a custom shield initially. I am sure this got them to make it a standard item.

From the item description...
"This invisibleSHIELD comes in seven pieces. The entire front is covered by one piece. The sides are covered by five pieces, and the back is protected by one piece."

Went to the source, I asked a shieldzone representative, she said that the full body shield does include screen protection...
so you won`t have to buy a separate screen protector [thumbsup]

Lols.. Actually, I did that also. (I should have done that in the first place... but I guess I just wasn't thinking). And Yes.. it does include the screen protector... However, the representative also said that the full body shield doesn't cover the border/bezel part... But I don't think that was right...

We'll have to wait and see who's the first to post experiences with this product.

Well, my full body shield hasn't arrived yet, but I just wanted to say that the material they use is hands down super-awesome-riffic. I get my screen all sweaty and oily when I'm in the gym, and I just rub the player on my towel or shirt and the screen is totally clean! I've wiped my screen on my jeans, on paper towels, you name it. Just the best. My clear plastic case constantly has dust inside - I think it's particles coming off of my gym towel. The full body shield will solve this lint problem :)

I do hope the front bezel is totally covered, I mean that's the point of 'full body shield' [yes]

I'm a bit confused about the "entire front is covered by one piece" thing. How can it cover both the screen and the white/black borders of the player since the screen is sort of recessed back while the borders bump out?

I talked to Katrina C. at invisibleShield today and she told me that just the screen is covered, not the bezel around the screen. The 6 other pieces go on the sides and the back.

I am still trying to get a replacement shield for the two defective shields I got. Just got the bottle of solution.[sad]

Okay, I took some photos, and you can sort of make out the pieces on each sheet. In the last photo, I traced the edges (roughly using my mouse) so you can see how wierd the side pieces are. Here's some of my observations:

There's 7 pieces. You get the back piece on one sheet (the biggest sheet - bottom left in the third photo). It has 4 holes in it, right where those little feet are on the back of the player. If you have the metal sticker, the back piece is exactly like that. For the front, you get a screen protector (that's the sheet on the upper left in the third photo).

There is no bezel protection. Why did they skip the bezel is my question. Such a huge disappointment!

Okay now the sides... There's 5 pieces, all on one sheet, and they're not one piece for each side like I assumed - and I bet you assumed the same - instead, it's a bunch of big and small pieces, with one piece fitting over the USB cover, another going over the microphone hole and stops at the buttons on either side (it's a really small piece) and another piece starts on the side of the power button, bends around the corner and stops at the headphone jack. There's a long piece that covers the entire side where the memory card goes in - that's like the only normal side piece, I expected all the sides to have pieces like this. The final and most confusing piece is a funky-shaped jigsaw-puzzle piece that goes over the rounded side of the player where the stylus is connected. I think there's something wrong with the piece, it's really oddly shaped and it doesn't cover everything correctly. It's hard to explain that last piece, but you can see for yourself in that last photo. It's the first piece on the left.

The fourth photo shows one of the small side pieces that fits over the microphone area. As you can see, the ends curve a bit around the edge of the buttons. But there's areas around the buttons that don't get any protection.

All in all I find the full body shield a big disappointment, as the front of the player has no protection at all. Well, the screen is protected, but the bezel has nothing.

I'll be using the full body shield as I've already put it on. There's parts of the player that are exposed here and there, as well as the front bezel being totally unprotected, but maybe it's enough protection? We'll see... I have the metal stickers on the player, and the full body shield went over it with no problem. The player with the metal sticker and the full body shield can be squeezed into the clear plastic case. It's a tight squeeze - but it does fit [smile]

I think there should be a piece to cover the front bezel. Anyway, I'll be happy to answer any questions about the full body shield [smile]

Wow man, I gotta say that looks pretty weak. Perhaps I was merely expecting too much. The demo vids and their description led me to believe that every mm would be covered, but not even the top section around the buttons is covered by one solid piece.
Keal, you are a treasure to fellow Cowon owners. I thank you deeply for taking the plunge and trying this product out ahead of the pack and posting the results.

Thanks for the review. That does indeed look weak. I don't understand the concept of protecting only a few certain spaces ie - the area around the microphone hole, and then leaving the rest uncovered. How is that a "full body" shield as it says right on the package? Especially after watching their video, which shows a protector covering the whole damn ipod.

Well, I guess that explains the "entire front is covered by one piece" question. It's not.

Thanks again for the review.

@ keal

can only agree with your comments on the full body shield, but if like me you have an extra screen shield this can be cut into 4 pieces to fit on the bezel.

Cut a little off the length on both sides (to get rid of the rounded corners), so that it fits widthways on the bezel with about 1mm clearance on each end. After that cut into 4 strips to fit the bezel, if done carefully the joins are nearly invisible.

Since I have the metal sticker on my D2, I realized that the sticker covers a couple of the case screws - the one on the area where the stylus attaches to the player. I think that odd jigsaw piece of the shield was designed so that it doesn't cover any of the case screws. It seems to make sense, as the other pieces for the sides of the case seem to stop short when there's a hole or screw in the way. I wish they would have made simple long strips (like the one on the memory card side) and just cut out holes where needed. An odd decision on their part, but maybe they need more time to shape a better shield.

Still, the lack of any protection for the front bezel will keep me from recommending the full body shield at all. I'd peel the whole thing off if it didn't fit in my clear plastic case. I'm going to use the D2 without the case until I see any signs of damage on the metal stickers. I'll post any updates to this thread [biggrin]

Wow! Big thanks on that one. I put away the extra screen shield. I'll dig it out tonight and cut strips out of them. Since I have the metal sticker, I can use it as a template. I don't think I'm talented enough to cut the shield to cover the angled parts of the bezel (the parts directly around the screen). Hoohoo!

Thanks for the review and pictures Keal!

But I'm pretty disappointed at the product also.. It doesn't seem to fit the description of a "full body shield." Ugh.. it's too bad that I had already ordered it :( . Perhaps I'll be able to return it.. whenever it comes..

Don't worry about the angled parts of the bezel, the shield follows the contours fine without being cut.

I must just say this is without the metal sticker, so I don't know if that will have any effect.

Thanks for the pic, OldGoat! I haven't cut my front bezel pieces yet, as I want to have enough time to sit there and be very careful. I'm going to attempt to cover the whole front like you did [biggrin]

You know what, there's a Shieldzone representative on this forum, I saw his post in another thread. I'll try to direct him to this thread so he can read our gripes and see OldGoat's handmade front bezel shield. Maybe that will help spawn a second generation full body shield :)

So far, I'm loving the shield, as incomplete as it is. It's just so thin and unobtrusive. I would easily pay $30.00, even a little more, if they developed a REAL full body shield for the D2.

I'll PM the rep and lead him here [smile]

EDIT: Oops! It was a NuShield rep who joined this forum, not a Shieldzone one... my mistake! I'll call Shieldzone in the morning and see if they can get someone to join this forum and view this thread. I'll report back tomorrow[smile]

I just finished slicing my old screen protector to cover the bezel. A couple suggestions. This stuff is hard to cut. I tried a sharp knife which didn't work too well, and finally resorted to some pretty dull scissors. At first I tried cutting the shield into four equal pieces, thinking that if they overhung the bezel slightly I could fold them down to cover the vertical side of the bezel. This didn't work - every time I tried to fold the edge of the shield down, the rest of it popped up, even after trying to hold it in place for a minute or two. (wonder if this is part of the reason they ignored the bezel in their design?) I would recommend cutting the shield thinner than 4 equal strips, cut it so it only covers the flat part of the bezel. Based on my experience, I think that is the best you can do.

Overall, I have to say that even with my somewhat ragged cuts, the shield looks pretty great on my D2. Shield zone definitely should have included a bezel piece, at least one that covers the flat part of the bezel. The best thing about the shield in my opinion is that once you get it on, it looks great, almost impossible to tell that there's anything on there at all. It is pretty expensive, though, for what you get.

Okay, here's my current full body shield update:

I haven't yet covered the front bezel, so it's only got the metal sticker covering part of it.

It seems that the front of my player doesn't get much abuse - so far, there's no damage to the front bezel at all - it goes from a small zipper pouch to my gym pants pocket, then gets mounted on an exercise machine, back to my pocket, then back to the zipper pouch everyday - and no scratches.

As for the sides and the back of the player, no damage at all. The partial body shield (aka full body shield) seems to do a decent job protecting the player.

Sorry I haven't contacted Shieldzone yet, but Monday morning, it's a priority. I'll call them, and ask them questions over the phone.

"Will you be improving on the D2 full body shield?"
"Why didn't you bother covering the bezel in the first place?"
"Are you familiar with the D2 metal stickers? If not, would you be willing to use that as a template for the front bezel? And how about more coverage on the sides?"

I'll give you guys an update on Monday[smile]
